Eugene Otto Matus

Funeral services for Eugene Otto Matus, age 78, of Lake Jackson will be held on Friday, November 28th at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Msgr. Leo Wleczyk officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30am with a Rosary to follow at 10:30am. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am. Interment will be held at Restwood Cemetery.

Gene died November 24, 2014. He was born in Ganado, TX on February 11, 1936 to Sophie Sablatura Matus and Otto Frank Matus. Eugene was a Veteran of the United States, Navy, serving on the Flagship USS Calvary APA32. Attended teletype School in Sand Diego and graduated first in his class. He was honorably discharged with serving from 1954-1958. Eugene married his high school sweetheart, Patty Midkiff and was raising a family when he moved to Lake Jackson to work for Dow Chemical in 1967. He retired in 1994 after 27 years. His love for golf, fishing, hunting, gardening, feeding the birds, making beaded Angels, painting, shelling pecans, and listening to polka music brought him so much peace and joy. However, treasured most of all was his love for God, family, and friends. He had a heart of gold always willing to share what he had with others. He was a devoted member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he had served on the Pastoral Council, Catholic Youth Organization Advisor, Extraordinary Minister, Usher, and St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. As a young man he served as an altar boy and was an Eagle Scout. Eugene was a proud member of the KJT for 75 years. He served God, his country, and his family.

Survivors include, Patty Matus, Shelly and Bobby Key, Laura and Ernie Ander, Mary Matus and Carol Taxis, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.


Pallbearers will be grandsons Wesley Juarez, Ryan Key, Joel Juarez, Eric Ander, John Ander, Devin Dotson

Scripture will be read by granddaughters, Jennifer Ander and Courtney Key

Offering of Gifts presented by granddaughters Ashley Dotson, Emily Ander and great grandchildren
