Funeral services for John "Jack" Ellis, 83, of Lake Jackson, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Rev. James Lloyns officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at St. Jerome, where family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary being said at 6:00 p.m. Jack was born in Minneapolis, MN to Edythe (Bistodeau) Ellis and Lester Ellis. He was raised in San Diego, CA and moved to NY for work, where he met the love of his life. In 1977, Jack was hired by Gulf States and the family moved to Lake Jackson, TX. We joined two families and had nine beautiful children. The word step-child was never used in our home. Jack loved traveling in our motor home, going from Alaska to Florida, and all states in between. He loved his family and the grandchildren loved being with him, while he taught them how to eat popcorn properly, mix soft drinks, and work in the garage. They followed him everywhere. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Ellis. Left to cherish his memory are Jack and Mary Ellen's children, Jacquline Duncan (Hugh), Kenneth Purcell (Suzette), Richard Purcell (Sharon), Ede Ellis, David Ellis (Nina), Joseph Ellis (Jeni), Timothy Purcell (Lori), Kathleen Keohane (Tim), and Sharon Adkins (Tod); 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ron Scheck; brother, Bob; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Lou DeMaria; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; his daughter, Teresa; and his infant grandsons, John and Johnathan. Pallbearers will be his grandsons; Timothy Ellis, Jeremy Purcell, Cody Purcell, Austin Keohane, Luke Yarborough, and Michael Purcell. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jerome Catholic Church, 201 N. Lazy Lane, Clute, TX 77531.
