After a long life full of love, Betty Rupley Allen of Lake Jackson, Texas went to be with Our Lord on January 13, 2017 at age 96. Betty Ruth Rupley was born in Fort Worth Texas July 23, 1920. She grew up in Houston across the street from James Bates Allen, whom she married October 24, 1944. They were married 67 years; their love and faithfulness is a great example to their family. They began married life in Freeport, and over the following years moved to Houston, Mobile, and finally Lake Jackson, while Jim Allen was the manager of various Stauffer Chemical Company facilities. She was a resident of Lake Jackson for 50 years. Betty was the daughter of Mildred Seele and Ralph Rupley, downtown Houston furrier and women's apparel merchant for many years. She graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston in 1938. Betty and her husband were both graduates of Rice Institute, Betty in 1942 and Jim in 1944. They married after Jim returned from World War II. Betty was a founding member of the Lake Jackson Wednesday Review Club, formed in 1945, and was its first full-term president. She also was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Betty and Jim made many friends through their participation in local and international Rotary Club activities. She and Jim resided at Carriage Inn in Lake Jackson since 2007. Betty and her husband were generous donors to many Lake Jackson community projects and other charities including Brazosport College, the planetarium, the Clarion, the historical museum, the Salvation Army and many others. Betty was a founder and faithful member of the local Christian Science Church and a member of the Christian Science Mother Church all of her life. She attributed her long life to her faith. She shared much love with her family and extended family. She took special joy in her garden, filled with flowers given her to by family and friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, James Allen; and by her brothers, Ralph and Robert Rupley. She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Janet (Tom) Clarke, of Incline Village, Nevada; son, John (Leah) Allen, of Folsom, California; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Elizabeth Perez) Clarke, David (Lorraine) Clarke, Elizabeth Allen and Kimberly (Xan) Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Everett and Hazel Clarke, and Fiona Clarke; Betty's sisters-in-law, Rae Rupley and Jacci Rupley; and many nieces and nephews and their families; and her special "daughters", Maricel Canizares and Luchie Galvez. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at Carriage Inn, 130 Lake Road, in Lake Jackson, Texas on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. A private graveside service for family will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas, on Friday.
