James "Lanny" Lanthrip

James Monroe Lanthrip, or "Lanny", as he was known to friends and family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Lanny was born on June 7, 1934 to James and Oretha Lanthrip. He married his wife, Zita, while stationed in Germany in 1955 and returned to the Brazosport area where they lived all their lives. Lanny worked at The Dow Chemical Company for thirty years until his retirement in 1987. Lanny was also a sports writer for The Brazosport Facts in the early 1960s.

The family will receive friends at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 300 Willow Drive, Lake Jackson Texas on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will start shortly thereafter at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Peter Cammarano officiating.

Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Zita, infant son Lanny, brothers Jay Lee Lanthrip and Charles Lanthrip. He is survived by his daughter, Lanita Vicars and her husband, Gary; granddaughter, Crystal Vicars Romero and husband, Marc; grandson, Tim Vicars; great granddaughter, Caite Romero; and nieces, Tara Slovarp and Tonya Heard.
