BENJAMIN WHITE JR

Funeral services for Benjamin White Jr, age 83, of Jones Creek, TX will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Reverend Brent Pittman officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service begins.

Ben was born December 18, 1930 in Yazoo City, Ms to Benjamin and Lonnie White. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict as an Airborne Ranger. He received an honorable discharge and in 1953 he married the love of his life, Sara Washington, and they settled in Freeport, Texas. After driving trucks for several years, Ben was named terminal manager for Roadway Express and then later worked for Shintech before he retired.

During retirement Ben took up home remodeling, gardening and volunteer work with the VFW where he was named an All American Commander twice.
He also joined the Velasco Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master and received the Golden Trowel Award. He became a certified Masonic teacher and spent many hours instructing future Masonic brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sara, his sister, Patricia Landrum, daughter Linda Fields (Leighton), son Benjamin White III (Debbie), son Charlie White, daughter Mary Henson (Kenneth), daughter Cheryl White-Waguespack (John), four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, Walter, granddaughter Nikki Dewitt, and grandson Benjamin Joseph White Waguespack.

Pallbearers will be Leighton Fields, Kenneth Henson, John Waguespack, Meyer Fields, Bryan Fields and Christofer Waguespack.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 4341 and members of the Velasco Masonic Lodge 757.

i am so sorry for your loss that words cannot express , i loved working with Ben at Shintech he was such a joy and always kept everyone laughing , i will truly miss him it was an honor to know him.
