Ozie Lee Ellis Lewis

In the still, quiet morning on Friday, November 20, 2015, the great creator of all the heaven and earth softly called his beautiful daughter home. I can only imagine what joy filled her soul when she heard him lovingly whisper her name. Ozie Lee Ellis Lewis was a good and faithful servant who fought the good fight of faith, and she courageously and victoriously stepped into that absolutely perfect place called heaven where she will spend all eternity with her heavenly Father, His Son Jesus and all of the saints who have gone before.


What a day of rejoicing that must have been when she finally saw her beloved Savior face to face! Ozie Lewis was born near Mexia, Texas to Theodore Jackson Ellis and Beulah Demarice Foley Ellis on March 18, 1927. Life was so simple in the good, ol' days, and the growing family spent hours working in the fields, raising farm animals, attending church with fun-filled picnics on the grounds, swimming in the creek, going to school and thoroughly enjoying the peace and tranquility of country life. The loving family had many talented musicians, and it was always fun to move the furniture back, strike up the band, dance with all of her sisters and friends, laugh uncontrollably and sing from the depths of their souls. Needless to say, there was always plenty of scrumptious food and kind-hearted people to celebrate life with back in the day. Ozie met the love of her life, Charles Lewis, and they were happily married on April 17, 1945. After World War II, the couple welcomed their only child into their home on February 27, 1947, where they lived and prospered in Lake Jackson, Texas. Beautiful memories and cherished moments to surely treasure for a lifetime were woven ever-so-gently across decades of time.


Let it be known that no one could cook like Ozie Lewis!


The very second that someone opened the back door of her home, the sweetest aromas of homemade cinnamon rolls, butter-dipped monkey bread, apricot nectar cake, heavenly hash delights and scrumptious downhome cooking with all the fixings greeted each family member and many cherished friends who entered her Christian home. Her forever sweetheart was treated like royalty! Milk gravy and hot buttered biscuits made from scratch were always lovingly prepared for her husband and without even a glancing at a recipe.


Ozie was a devoted and faithful wife for over seventy years, a loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, amazing sister, fun-loving and supportive aunt, trusted friend and confidant. Most importantly, Ozie was a strong woman of faith who never gave up on any of her family or friends, and she prayed without ceasing for everyone who was gently placed in her earthly journey. Her faith in God was rock-solid, and the light of Jesus radiated from her entire being throughout all the days of her life. She always walked worthy with mercy, grace and love.


Ozie resided in Lake Jackson with her family until 2011 when they relocated to their beautiful new home in Heritage Oaks in Angleton, and then as her dementia progressed, she became a happy resident at Country Village for three years. Her gorgeous smile and loving heart touched so many individuals during that time.


Ozie Lee Ellis Lewis was preceded in death by her mother (Beulah Demarice Foley Ellis), father (Theodore Jackson Ellis), two sisters (Bae Ellis Tumlinson, Frances Ellis Case), and three brothers (Happy Jack Ellis, Bo Ellis, James Ellis).


She is survived by her loving husband (Charles Lewis of Angleton), precious daughter (Rita Lewis Lacina of Angleton), grandson (Charles Wayne Lacina of Angleton), great-grandchildren (Justin Lacina and Kacie Lacina), their mother (Julie Lacina), great-great-grandson (Payton Lacina), Jo Ann and Robert Lewis, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many brothers and sisters in Christ.


The family is truly thankful for the quality care provided by the supportive and dedicated staff at Country Village in Angleton, the medical team at Angleton-Danbury Hospital and Altus Health System-Hospice that lovingly cared for her during the last hours of her earthly journey. Words do not adequately express their genuine appreciation for their unconditional love and comfort during the recent days as they cared for Ozie.


Visitation will be on Sunday, November 22nd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home, 98 North Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas. Bro. Bob Flowers of Brazoria will officiate Ozie's celebration of life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23rd at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.


As we reflect about Ozie Lewis and celebrate her amazing life, we will always smile. . .filled with the blessed assurance that she is only one heartbeat away. . .waiting patiently for each of us.


And, of one thing we are certain beyond a shadow of a doubt, she has triumphantly entered His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise!


She is singing, dancing and praising her Lord forevermore!
