JR was a good friend, a great father and Scouter. He was willing to help his fellow man whenever he could.

In the brief few years I spent as a BSA District Executive, I quickly discovered that J.R. was one of those "go-to guys" when cheerful service was required. Despite having his own family to care and provide for, he would often step in, through Scouting, to help other kids that may not have had that parental support. He would jump at the chance to run the shooting ranges out at Camp Karankawa, help run Cub camps, or just about anything and everything else he could do to serve.
Most importantly, I could always count on good conversation and kind words from J.R. anytime the going got tough. He was most definitely a good man, a good friend in the few years I knew and worked with him, and I am very saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to his entire family.
