Funeral services for Volney Ray Cook Sr., age 81, of Freeport will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Miles officiating. Interment will be at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek. The family will receive friends at Lakewood Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Ray was known to many as "Ray Freeport Cook" through his friends and coworkers working as a Pipe Fitter through Local Union 211 and Electricians Union for more than 45 years. Ray was an avid hunter and collector of bottles, marbles, and coins. With his collection he had recently won Blue Ribbons at the County Fair and still has exhibits of his collection at the Brazoria and Freeport Museums, Sea Center and Freeport Library. Ray was a member most of his life at the First Baptist Church in Freeport till he moved to Jones Creek and always was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Jones Creek. He was always willing to give a helping hand, cut someone's yard and bring food whoever needed. He always had a story to tell if you had the time to listen. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Jean Cook; his parents; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Marie Cook; son and daughters, Cindy George and husband, Donnie, Ray Cook and wife, Eddie, Carol Azlin and husband, Tim, Samantha Kay and husband, Brandon, and Brandy Reckaway; grandchildren, Jay, Justin, Donnie, Damon and Darrin George, John, Brittany, Amber and Walker Cook, Emily and Sarah Azlin, and Calvin Dixon; many great-grandkids and great great-grandkids. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Brazosport Christian School - Girls Softball Team Fund at 200B Willow Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566.
