Barbara Ann Turner
12/2/1940 - 12/3/2017

Barbara Ann Turner, of Clute, passed away on December 3rd at the age of 77, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer and dementia. She was born in the country near Bremond, TX, on December 2, 1940. She loved to tell the story of how her father rode a horse nine miles to town to get the doctor who came by horse and buggy to deliver her. Her father paid the doctor with furs from animals he trapped in the nearby woods. The Peters family moved to the Freeport area in the early forties and were residents of Camp Chemical for a while. Barbara grew up in Clute, graduated from Brazosport High School in 1959, and went to Lydia of Houston hair styling school. In 1961, she married Marshall Turner after his sophomore year at Texas A&M. They lived in Apartment B-14-Z of the old renovated Army barracks known as College View. She worked in the beauty shop in Bryan and put Marshall through his remaining three years at A&M. Barbara often remarked that those were the best days of their lives. She was very proud of her Aggie princess ring and her PHT (Pushing Husband Through) Certificate. After leaving A&M, the Turners spent the next three years at various military posts while Marshall fulfilled a three year military obligation. Barbara stayed at home in Clute and kept their first daughter while Marshall was away in Vietnam. They returned to Clute in 1968 where she made a home and raised two daughters, Michelle, born in 1965, and Kimberly, born in 1970. Barbara was a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook, and an avid shopper. She was a life-time member of the First Baptist Church of Clute where she and Marshall enjoyed over 30 years of RV camping and playing SkipBo with church friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Lee Roy Peters and her daughter, Michelle Ferrell. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Marshall Turner; one daughter, Kimberly Woolf (Dallas) of Stafford, KS; son-in-law, Kevin Ferrell of Tyler, TX; four grandchildren, Marshall and Toby Woolf, and Paden and Paige Ferrell. She is also survived by one sister, Sharon Shields (Ronnie) of Pearland. Visitation will be on Friday, December 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, December 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Clute. A special thanks goes out to the Carriage Inn, Care Builders, and to Carole Small of IPH Hospice. Those wishing to contribute to a memorial are asked to consider a tax deductible donation to a faith-based ministry founded and operated by Barbara's granddaughter, Paige Ferrell, to help the "Special Children" of Nicaragua.
