Sarah Jo Oakes
10/7/1949 - 5/25/2018

Sarah Jo Robinson Oakes overcame disease and pain as she slipped from this temporal world into eternal peace and rest on Friday, May 25, 2018 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was an overcomer in life as she was born in the aftermath of the 1949 Texas hurricane, October 7, 1949, to Ida Lou and Terrell Edward Robinson in Freeport, Texas. As a child, living on Loop Road (now known as Dixie Drive), she survived being hit by a car as she checked the mail across from her parent's store. Sarah Jo, also, overcame the debilitating results of childhood spinal meningitis through care she received at Dow Hospital. These trials gave her "spunk" as she faced life head-on - be it family or career. Sarah Jo fought Multiple Myeloma courageously for the last several years. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith. 1 John 5:4. Sarah Jo made a career as a professional secretary serving as City Secretary for the City of Clute for 22 years until her retirement in January 2013. Sarah Jo's creative touch brought joy to friends and family as she crafted sea birds or cooked meals - her chicken fried venison and chicken and dumplings were favorites of family and friends. She was especially fond of paint-by-number painting. Sarah Jo's husband of 29 years was Don Oakes, City of Clute Councilman. Sarah Jo was a loving mother to Robert "Bobby" Paramore and Suzanne Paramore. Her pride and joy were twin granddaughters, Samantha and Shyanne Raines who called her "Mimi." Sarah Jo Robinson Oakes was preceded in death by her parents, half-brother Earl Maples, half-sister Brenda Maples Runnels and brother-in-law, R.B. Runnels. She is survived by her husband, Donald Oakes; son, Robert Paramore, and wife, Shera; daughter, Suzanne Paramore, and granddaughters, Samantha and Shyanne Raines; step-daughters, Donna Shetters and Dinah Stalker (husband Jeremy); grandchildren Crystal Felkens, Mattie McGough (husband Josh), Courtney Shetters, Hunter Shetters, and Rex Stalker; great grandchildren Marshall McGough and Riley McGough. Also, half-brother, Travis Maples and wife, Rachel; and brother, Terry Robinson, and wife, Debbie. Sarah Jo leaves many nieces and nephews, extended family, and devoted friends. Visitation is scheduled Tuesday, May 29 at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial service Wednesday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Jeff McDonald and arrangements by Lakewood Funeral home. Serving as Pall Bears are Joe Arredondo, Dee Barnes, Julian "Rooter" Luckenbach, Luke Luckenbach, James Maples, and George Sakai. Honorary Pall Bearer is Doyle Bennett.
