Helen Louise Kincannon Packard

Helen Louise Kincannon Packard, 98 years old, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away peacefully at her son Douglas' home on January 18, 2021. Helen was born to Anna and Gottfried Knoepfli on November 27, 1922 in Prague, Oklahoma. She recently celebrated her 98th birthday at the home of her son Douglas surrounded by her family.

Helen attended school in Prague and attended college at Central State in Oklahoma to realize her ambition to be a teacher. When World War II broke out and the love of her life Elmer T. Kincannon went off to war, Helen left college and moved to Glendale, CA in August of 1943 to work for General Controls in the Inspections Department. Following the war, she returned to Oklahoma, and she and Elmer were married on December 18, 1947 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Helen completed her degree at Central State. Together, Helen and Elmer moved to Lake Jackson on February 5, 1951 when Elmer took a job with the Dow Chemical Company. Helen was employed as a teacher at Clute Elementary from 1951 1958. Following Elmer's death in 1971, Helen married Lawrence Packard Jr. in February of 1974. Helen and Larry enjoyed many years of travel. Helen accompanied Larry on a job assignment for Dow in Brazil. Following Larry's retirement, they enjoyed trips to Europe, most especially Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. Helen cherished her many trips to Andelfingen, Switzerland where her father Gottfried attended grade school.

Helen is survived by her two sons: Kim (Laurie) of West Columbia and Douglas (Alexa) of Lake Jackson; two stepsons: Lawrence Packard III (Genie) of Lake Jackson and Stephen Packard (Sherre) of Richmond. In addition, she is survived by ten grandchildren: Kyle Kincannon (Jenny) of West Columbia; Kent Kincannon (Chelsea) of Los Angeles, CA: Kate Kincannon-Huvar (Jared) of West Columbia; Kirby Luna (Ethan) of The Woodlands and Kellye Kincannon of Houston; Kathryn Packard Ellis (John) of San Antonio; John Packard (Aline) of The Woodlands; Andrew Packard (Courtney) of Lake Jackson; Matthew Packard (Rachel) of West Columbia; Steven Packard Jr (Deanna) of Sugarland. In addition, Helen is blessed with 19 great grandchildren. Helen also leaves a host of special nieces and nephews including Karla Knoepfli of Norman, OK and Karen Knoepfli Buck of Houston and very special friends Sandra Weir, Dale Rasco, Shirley Gillman, C. W. Matteck, and in memory Rea Zylks. Special thanks to Care Builders Carol Ham and IPH Home Health Care and Hospice Ray and Nancy Ramon. A private service with immediate family only will take place at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23rd. Immediately following, there will be a public graveside service in the outdoor chapel at Restwood Cemetery in Clute. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Helen may be made to the charity of one's choice. Due to COVID, attendees are asked to respect social distancing protocols and wear masks.
