Roy Lynn Deavenport

Roy Lynn Deavenport, 83, of Lake Jackson, TX, formerly of Middletown, RI, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022. Roy was born in Silverton, TX on September 25, 1938 to Pattie Thomas Deavenport and Andrew Lee Deavenport. He was the youngest of five children and grew up on the family farm in Silverton. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX graduating in 1962 with degrees in math and physics. Roy married Triena Louise Dotson in 1962 in Lubbock, TX. They moved to San Diego, CA where he began working at The Underwater Systems Center for the US Government. Their oldest child, Stephen, was born in San Diego in 1964. In 1966, they moved to Austin, TX where Roy worked for Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas. While in Austin, they had their youngest son, Joseph, in 1968 and adopted their daughter, Christina, in 1973. In 1973, they moved to Connecticut where he worked for the Naval Underwater Systems Center and then Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI as a physicist until his retirement in August, 2021. He then moved back to Texas where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Roy was a lifelong academic and loved historical scientific knowledge and pursuing new theories on quantum physics. He had a strong faith in God that he would freely share with anyone. Many people have benefited from his great generosity over his entire life.
He is preceded in death by his son Stephen Deavenport. He is survived by his daughter Christina Dotson Las Vegas, NV and son Joseph Deavenport and daughter-in-law Leah Hill, Lake Jackson, TX and grandchildren Cody Dotson, Timothy Deavenport, Luke Deavenport, Gabriel Deavenport, Bethany Deavenport, and Isaac Deavenport and great-granddaughter Chloe Dotson.
The family will hold a private service in honor of Roy's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his favorite charitable organization, Compassion International.
