Johnny Virgil Collins, of Brazoria, Texas passed away Monday, May 15, 2023, at Jeannie Sealy UTMB Hospital in Galveston, Texas, surrounded by family at the age of 72. Johnny was born in Big Springs, Texas on October 27, 1950, to John Alfred Collins Jr. and Betty Ann Townsend Crisp. He grew up in Sweeny, Texas and graduated from Sweeny High School in 1969. He played baseball, football and ran cross country track for the Sweeny Bulldogs. After high school, Johnny served in the Army National Guard from 1969 until 1972. He became a medic and worked with the hospital corps, while being a paratrooper. Once out of the Army, Johnny worked in and for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas and retired after 40 years. He loved sports of all types, and even played softball for the Dow Chemical team and a bowling league for many years. One of his favorite past times was fishing with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Melanie Donoho-Collins, of 20 years. Daughter Billie Ann Tyson, stepdaughter Heather Lacina, and bonus daughter Amy Sewell. Sisters Judy Jones (Kenny), Cindi Boykin, and Josie Peters, by sister and brother in law Elaine and Les Salles and brother and sister in law Kevin and Reta Donoho and mother in Law Nell Gonsulin, Grandson Drew Collins, granddaughters Stephanie Tyson and Summer Tyson. Bonus granddaughters Savana Vera (Enrique), Reagann Sewell (Eric) and Jaycie Sewell. He also has Three Bonus great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Johnny is preceded in death by his Father and Mother. Stepfather Wayne Milton Crisp Jr., Stepmother Myrtle Mae Collins, Son John Duward Collins, Brother Jimmy Neal Collins, Sister Janice Lynn Bertrand, Brother-in-law's Michael Paul Donoho, and Moscow Boykin Jr.
Johnny's funeral will be held at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas on Thursday, May 25, 2023 with Pastor Ed Jennings officiating. The visitation starts at 11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. A funeral reception will follow at Jasmine Hall in Lake Jackson. The family would like to acknowledge and give our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Fabio Aglieco, DO, Susan Hornstein, RN, and his medical team for being so kind to Johnny and the family while he was on PD Dialysis and during his courageous fight against cancer. To all those who kept him in their prayers, we will forever be grateful.
