WB "Jack" Taylor
12/8/1944 - 1/4/2026
On January 4th Jack Taylor said goodbye to his earthly family and said Howdy to his heavenly family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, service, and deep love for his family and community. He was a man who lived to serve his community, giving freely of his time, leadership, and heart throughout his life.
A sixth-generation Texan, Jack was born in Huntsville, Texas, in 1944. In 1945, his family relocated to Freeport, Texas, where Jack was raised and developed the deep roots, values, and commitment to agriculture, civic leadership, and service to others.
Jack was a cowboy at heart. He loved working his cattle on the T/3 Ranch, cutting his own hay and sharing stories marked by his quick wit and mischievous humor. He never met a stranger and found great joy in entertaining others with his cowboy poetry, often alongside his cowboy partner and beloved saddle buddy, Durwood Eudaley. Performing his poetry for anyone willing to listen was one of Jack's greatest pleasures.
Jack's dedication to agriculture and public service was extensive. He was named Man of the Year by the Brazoria Agriculture Agent Associa-tion for his leadership and commitment to the agricultural community. He also served on the Brazoria City Council and as Alderman and Mayor Pro Tem for the Jones Creek City Council. He served on the Brazoria County Extension Council and was a founding member of the Brazoria County East Brazos Drainage District, serving two terms. Jack also served 12 years on the Brazoria County Parks Department Board, including time as Board President, and served on the Brazoria County Mosquito Control District Board. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors for a local savings and loan association.
A lifetime member of the Brazoria County Fair Association, Jack was also a life member of the Brazoria County Cattle Raisers Association and the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; two organizations his family has been involved with since the early 1900's. Alongside his wife Winona, Jack hosted the Kids Unlimited Program for 12 years, sponsoring youth fishing tournaments and supporting countless young people with cancer. He raised Charolais cattle and operated a quality hay production farm, earning numerous awards for Bermuda and Coastal Bermuda hay.
Jack was deeply involved with the 4-H program in Brazosport Independent School District and took great pride in helping students succeed with their livestock projects. He remained active with the AgriLife Extension Service, serving on the Brazoria County Leadership Advisory Board, and was a longtime member of the Urban Rancher Program. Jack also hosted livestock and animal health programs at his ranch and was a founding member of the Brazoria County Legislative Advisory Board.
Jack was a member of the Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church where he also filled in as interim Pastor occasionally. Jack's impact was felt most profoundly on a personal level. He was dependable, generous, and quietly influential, believing strongly in showing up and doing what needed to be done without seeking recognition. He welcomed others with sincerity, mentored youth with patience, and lived his faith through service. His wisdom, humor, and servant's heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his wife of 58 years, Winona Taylor; his son, Wright Taylor, and wife Michelle; and his granddaughter, Madison, of Marco Island, Florida. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Merritt of Lake Jackson, his brother, Nelson Taylor of Brazoria, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a very wide circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jack and Lou Taylor of Freeport; his in-laws, Modell and Merle Buchanan of Brazoria; his brother-in-law, John Merritt; his sister-in-law, Daphene Dees; and his brothers-in-law, Wadell Buchanan and Frankie Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10th at the Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church in Jones Creek. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Dr. David Pierce.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church, in Honor of Jack Taylor - 231 N. Gulf Prairie Rd., Freeport, TX 77541.
Jack Taylor lived a life rooted in faith, family, service, and stewardship of the land. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
