Betty Ruth Guffey
10/25/1934 - 1/26/2026

Betty Ruth Guffey, 91, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 26, 2026. She was born on October 25, 1934, in Smithville, TX to Charles and Willie Naumann. Betty married Karl Guffey on February 17, 1952, at the age of 17 and together they raised 2 children. Karl and Betty were married over 48 years before his passing in 2000. When Betty's children were young, she was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. When her youngest was in high school, Betty went to work for Sears and then later joined a dental office in town as the receptionist where she worked for over 20 years. Her main focus was her family and she always put everyone else's needs above her own. She was a sweet, caring, and selfless person. In recent years her favorite thing to do was sit on her back porch in her rocking chair watching the birds or enjoying a rainy day. Her main calling in life was to be an extraordinary mother. Her kind and gentle spirit lives on in those she loved and left behind.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Ron Karl Guffey and his wife Carol of Clute, her daughter Karla Ruth Thursby and her husband Craig of Lake Jackson; her 5 grandchildren, Nicole Rae Pearson of Richmond, Jake Karl Guffey of Angleton, Ryan Craig Thursby of Little Rock, Arkansas, Justin Cole Thursby of Carrollton, and Travis Connor Thursby of Dickinson; her 5 great grandchildren, Tyler Cade Jones, Kamryn Rae Jones, Joshua Ryan Thursby, Isla Corrine Thursby, and Theo Jack Thursby (TJ).

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Guffey; her parents, Charles and Willie Naumann; her brother Charles Naumann (Sonny); and her sister, Doris Willis.

The family will receive friends at Lakewood Funeral Home on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas with the Rev. Gary Thornton officiating at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
