Barbara Rinehart Maier
3/1/1939 - 3/18/2026
Barbara Rinehart Maier
Barbara Rinehart Maier was born March 1, 1939, in Midland, Michigan and died March 18, 2026, in Galveston, Texas.
In 1940, Barbara's family relocated to Freeport, Texas, where her father continued his career with Dow Chemical Company. Barbara grew up in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1957.
Barbara dedicated 25 years of service to Dow Chemical Company as an Administrative Secretary, where her professionalism and warmth left a lasting impression. She married the love of her life, John Henry Maier, and together they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage. They raised three daughters - Elizabeth, Charlotte, and Theresa - first in Freeport and later in Lake Jackson, Texas, where they moved in the early 1980s. In December 2021, Barbara transitioned to Country Village Care Skilled Nursing Facility where she lived until her death.
Barbara's life was marked by deep involvement in her community and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a constant presence in her daughters' lives, serving as a PTA member, official scorekeeper for volleyball and softball games, and piano accompanist for school choirs and competitions. Her volunteer spirit extended to Brazosport Memorial Hospital where she served as an auxiliary ''Pink Lady'' for 25 years, and to the Lake Jackson Habitat for Humanity ReStore, where she gave 11 years of service.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Barbara played the organ at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport for 25 years and later sang in the choir at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Lake Jackson for 20 years. She found joy in gardening, needlepoint, embroidery, and reading - but above all, she cherished music and the friendships it brought. Known as a ''social butterfly,'' Barbara had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved.
Barbara is survived by her three daughters: Elizabeth Tucker (Norman), Charlotte Garwood (Bill), and Theresa Brown; seven grandchildren: Justin Tucker (Anna), Cody Tucker (Courtney), Christine Garwood, Megan Gentile (Ryan), Ashley Hollingsworth (Brian), Alex Covington (Michael), and Austin Brown; and four great-grandchildren: Mason Tucker, Logan Tucker, Claire Gentile, and Emma Gentile. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Henry Maier.
Barbara's family would like to thank Country Village Care for providing care to our mom these past 3 years. We would also like to give special thanks to the staff at Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston for their excellent care and support during Mom's final days.
Memorial services will be announced when finalized.
