Curtis Ray Rickaway
2/11/1926 - 9/5/2011

Curtis Ray Rickaway, affectionately known to many as "Uncle Cookie," "Ranger Rick", but most importantly as "Gramps," passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. Curtis was born February 11, 1926, in Blessing, Texas, the youngest of 14 children, born to Frank Henry and Alice Rebecca Rickaway. He was a resident of Jones Creek for over 60 years.

Curtis was a World War II, U.S. Army Veteran. He was a tank commander in the 3rd Army, 7th armored Division and participated in campaigns in France and the Battle of the Bulge.

He was also a charter member of to the Angleton National Guard.

Curtis was a pipe fitter and in later years taught construction trades at Sweeny High School.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Weber Rickaway; sons, John and Stephen Rickaway; grandsons, Gregory and Curtis Rickaway; and 13 siblings.

He is survived by his children, Philip and Debby Rickaway, of Alvin, Greg and Caroline Rickaway, of Angleton, Gary and Jacquetta Rickaway, of Lake Jackson, David and Tricia Rickaway, of Clute, Helen Marie and "Rusty" K.B. Green, of Freeport; 13 beloved grandchildren, Matt Rickaway, Zack Rickaway, John Rickaway, Kelley Brinker, Jason Weeks, Kasi Marsh, Doug Rickaway, Tyler Rickaway, Chad Rickaway, Sarah Rickaway, Jamie Delesandri, Brian Green, Scott Green; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lakewood Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Monsignor Leo Wleczyk officiating. Interment will be at the Gulf Prairie Cemetery

Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Joe Jenkins, Bonner Jenkins, Richard Turner, Robert Turner, Roy Toomer, Charles Armstrong, Earl Huffhines, Darryl Rickaway, Robert Hosack, Charles McKinney, and David Flow.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4341 and St. Michael's Catholic Church of Lake Jackson.
