Raymond Wanieck
3/23/1931 - 3/15/2012

Ray Wanieck went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2012. Ray was born on March 23, 1931 to Ray Sr. and Rose Wanieck in Wharton, Texas.

He graduated from Wharton High School in 1950 and attended Sam Houston College where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degree.

In October of 1953, Ray married Becky Hillers of Pasadena Texas and they were married for over 58 years. Ray served his country for 2 years in the U.S. Army.

He worked for B.I.S.D. for over 30 years, holding several positions including Band Director at Velasco Junior High and Principal at both O.A. Fleming Elementary and Stephen F. Austin Elementary.

He was President of the Velasco Lions, member and president of both BESA and Teachers Association BART. Ray was one of the original volunteers for the Sea Center and until recently volunteered with the Brazosport Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

He was a longtime member of Freeport First United Methodist Church serving in many leadership roles. Ray and Becky are currently members of First United Methodist Church, Lake Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rose and Ray Wanieck; sister, Muriel Wanieck; father-in-law, Vernon Hillers and mother-in-law, Dolly Hillers; and brother-in-law, William (Buddy) Hillers.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Becky Wanieck; children, Ranelle Hampy (Mike), Randy Wanieck (Pam), and Robin Ola (Johnny); grandchildren, Natalie Broaddus (Matt), Jackie and Sarah Wanieck, Katie and Travis Ola; and four step-grandchildren.

The family has asked for memorials to be made to IPH Hospice, First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, His Love, and/or The Women's Shelter, Angleton.

Visitation will be Friday March 16, 2012 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home in Clute. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday March 17, 2012 First United Methodist Church, Lake Jackson.
