Helen Adams Myers
Helen Adams Myers of Denton, Texas, formerly of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on March 29, 2012 at the age of 95. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, April 2, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel . A memorial service will be held at Sterling House in Denton, Texas at a later date.
Helen Adams Myers was born in Maplewood, New Jersey on June 9, 1916 to Patrick Henry and Helen Purdy Adams. She received her Bachelor of Arts in music from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Later she received Texas teacher certification from University of Houston.
While at Wilson College she met the love of her life, John C. Myers. She and John were married on October 19, 1940. It was a double wedding with her identical twin sister, Grace and her fiancé John Palm. During their 68 years of marriage they lived in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Lake Charles, Louisiana, before becoming early pioneers of the new town, Lake Jackson, Texas in 1944. In the mid-70s John's job gave them the exciting opportunity to live in Sao Paulo, Brazil for three years.
Helen was a language arts teacher in the Brazosport ISD as well as in the American School in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was organist several years, choir member, and women's circle member. In the community Helen belonged to Wednesday Review and AAUW, was a Pink Lady at the Dow Hospital and a volunteer with the HOST tutoring program in the school district.
Always curious and open to new adventures, Helen and John traveled extensively throughout the world, which expanded their circle of friends and love of culture. Helen collected antique post cards and made frequent related presentations. She was a supporter of the community orchestra and theater.

Helen in survived by her four daughters, Nancy Biggs and husband Joel of Georgetown, Texas, Carol Robertson of Georgetown, Texas, Janet Luttrell and her husband Dale of Denton, Texas, and Linda Burns of Lake Jackson, Texas. She had ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews , friends, and beloved caregiver, Evelyn Partridge.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John C. Myers; her parents, Patrick and Helen Adams; and her identical twin, Grace Adams Palm.

The family will receive friends at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 1, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Jackson. Interment will follow.

The family is grateful for Helen's special support by Sterling House, Ardent Hospice and The Atrium Health Center. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the Building Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 102 Yaupon, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566
