Robert Lee Thompson

After a lengthy battle with a rare cancer, Robert "Bob" Lee Thompson, 78, passed away in his sleep at home surrounded by his family on November 21, 2013. He was born September 25, 1935 to Raymond and Lois Thompson in Canon City, Colorado.

Bob is survived by his wife Gail of 52 years, daughter Cyndi Wleczyk of West Columbia, son Brett Thompson of New Brunswick, NJ, sister Nitaray Jess of Prescott, AZ, 2 granddaughters Taylor Wleczyk and Sierra Wleczyk of West Columbia, 2 great granddaughters Adalynn Goins and Kinley Longoria of West Columbia, Sister in Law Susie Edwards of Peoria, IL and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lois Thompson. Bob was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.

Bob grew up in Hastings, NB and joined the Navy maintaining the electronics on an air craft carrier's gun control systems. He then attended the University of Nebraska getting his Industrial Engineer degree. On graduation, Bob was offered one of the highest salaries of his class in the Quality Department of Martin Marietta. Bob joined Dow Chemical in 1963 where he spent the remainder of his career. Bob started in Rocky Flats Dow Chemical in Colorado. Bob and his family resided in Lakewood, CO before being transferred to Salvador, Brazil in 1974 where he worked as the Employee Relations Manager for the Grass Root Plant. In 1977, Bob transferred to Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX. He retired in 1995 and then worked for Kelly Services as a Consultant for 4 more years. After 36+ years, he officially retired to do what he liked best…Hunting, fishing and playing golf. Bob also had a passion for wood working. Some of the family heirlooms he made were: a cradle, several quilt racks, doll swings, and cedar lined hope chests. He enjoyed watching golf and football especially the Denver Broncos and the Texas Aggies.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 300 Willow Dr., Lake Jackson, TX. Funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Bonnie Olsteen officiating
