Norman John Landry, Sr.

Norman John Landry, Sr., 89 of Freeport, Texas passed away, Friday, April 4, 2014 after a brief illness.

He was born on October 6, 1924 in Freeport to Anitus and Anita Landry. Norman graduated from Freeport High School in 1942. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a part of the Texas Task Force. He served at Pearl Harbor for two years during World War II.

He married his high school sweetheart, Leola Girouard and they were married for 61 years until she passed away in 2007. Following his years of service in the Navy he worked for the Freeport Sulfphur Company for 20 years and then Dow Chemical for 22 until his retirement in 1985.

Norman was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3365 and a member of the Fourth Degree Freeport Assembly 1120. He was the leader of the "rat pack" meeting at the back of the church before mass. Norman was also the "CEO" of the coffee club meeting at Mc Donalds. Norman was also known as the "king" of the mall walkers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leola, daughter Ann White and brothers Herman and Earl Landry.

He is survived by his daughter Kathy Bruce of Freeport. Son Norman, Jr. and wife Sally of Missouri City,son-in law Mike White of Jones Creek,
5 grandchildren: Anne Marie Cervenka, and husband Brian of Sugar Land, Laura Gilbey and husband Sean of Austin,Michael White of Houston, Andy Bruce and wife Liza of San Marcos,Amy Bruce of Austin,6 great grandchildren: Alex, Adam, and Grace Cervenka of Sugar Land, Matthew, Cate, and Anna Gilbey of Austin,
2 sisters: Dorothy Nelson of Brazoria, and Joyce Hargrove of Mountainview, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends 6pm until 8pm Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with 7pm Rosary. The funeral mass will be 10am Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Edmund P. Eduatre officiating with the Fourth Degree Knights in attendance. Pall bearers will be Michael White, Brian Cervenka, Sean Gilbey, Alex Cervenka, Adam Cervenka, and Andy Bruce. Honorary pall bearers will be his god son Paul Louviere, the Coffee Club and the Mall Wallkers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Amin and the third floor staff at Brazosport Regional Health Care for their loving care. Also the family appreciates the support of family and friends during this time.

Norman was "Pa" to all of us and was loved dearly. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
