Albert Otis Mayo, Jr. was born on March 9, 1946, and left this earth for his heavenly home on August 28, 2026, with his family by his side. Al made Angleton, Teas his home when he married Jo Ann Hendricks on February 19, 1999. Together they shared 27 years of marriage.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 1307 West 5th Street, Freeport, Texas on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Special thanks to Freeport Lakewood Funeral home for your guidance and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Al was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal church and enjoyed helping at the church and enjoyed the fellowship. He loved his church family. He always looked forward to the yearly Camp Allen trips.

Al grew up camping, fishing and playing baseball. He would later coach his son, little Albert in baseball. Al was also an avid golf player. He enjoyed hunting and his favorite hunting trip was an Elk hunting trip to Montana. Al was a builder of all things, it was his passion, especially helping his son build things as he grew up and then helping his grandchildren on their school projects. Al had a special knack for writing poems and every holiday he read them to the family. Al and Jo Ann enjoyed their friend’s group and all the motorcycle trips they took together all over the US over the years.

Al was a fighting Texas Aggie. He was a member of the A & M Corp. He graduated from Texas A & M with two bachelor degrees and a Master’s degree in Architecture. He then worked for HUD in Florida and eventually came back to College Station and was the city planner for many years. Al eventually formed his own asbestos removal company, Deal Enterprises, LLC which he loved until his health would no longer let him work.

Albert Otis Mayo, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Otis Mayo, Sr. (whom Al took excellent care of in the last few years of his life.) his mother, Kathleen Corder. He was also preceded in death by his only son Albert Edward Wesley Mayo and his brother Wesley Franklin Mayo, Sr. Also, his cousin Kathy Wood, Aunt Sara Sue Wood and his stepsons, Jay Elliot Brooks and David Calvin Hendricks, III.

Al is survived by his wife Jo Ann Mayo, sister, Marcy Bayless and husband David, cousin, Debbie McDonald, stepson, Philip Brooks and wife Tammy, He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great children and a great, great granddaughter whom he loved deeply.

Al’s heart gave out on him twelve years ago, and he received an LVAD Heart Mate, III. It gave him time to enjoy his family. He continued to do many things for the last ten years and he fought a hard battle for the last two years to stay with us. Al had a heart of gold and loved everyone, especially his wife Jo Ann. He will be missed and we know his heart is healed and he’s with Jesus and all his loved ones who went before him.
