James Michael “Mike” Jones, 77, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2026, in Houston, Texas.

Mike was born on December 8, 1948, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to James Jones and Bulah Michael Jones. He attended Stephen F. Austin University before beginning a long and dedicated career with Dow Chemical, where he worked for 40 years.

For 49 years, Mike shared his life with his wife, Candy Jones. Together, they built a life centered around family, laughter, friendship, and countless memories. They enjoyed traveling together, with some of their favorite adventures taking them to Alaska, California, Tennessee, and on numerous cruises.

Mike and Candy were blessed with three daughters: Heather Rubin and her husband, Ephram; Meghan Ashley and her husband, Hunter; and Katelyn Anderson and her husband, Blake. Mike was a proud grandfather, affectionately known as “Pop,” to Elliot and Hannah Rubin, Quinn and Hayes Ashley, and Gunnar Anderson.

Family was the most important part of Mike’s life, and few things brought him greater joy than watching his grandchildren grow. Whether he was attending their games, performances, activities, or simply spending time together, being “Pop” was one of the greatest joys of his life.

Mike loved golf and baseball, but perhaps even more than that, he loved people. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He was always ready to share a story, make a new friend, or spend time visiting with those around him.

After retiring, Mike became a regular at the Whataburger Breakfast Club, where he enjoyed meeting new friends, sharing stories, and starting his mornings in good company. Retirement also gave him more time for the things he treasured most—traveling with Candy and being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Jones and Bulah Michael Jones, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Betty O’Quin.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Candy Jones; his daughters, Heather Rubin (Ephram), Meghan Ashley (Hunter), and Katelyn Anderson (Blake); his grandchildren, Elliot and Hannah Rubin, Quinn and Hayes Ashley, and Gunnar Anderson; his siblings, Belinda and Mack Jones; as well as extended family, friends, former coworkers, breakfast companions, and the countless people whose lives were made a little brighter by knowing him.

Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his gift for conversation, his stories, his friendships, and the genuine interest he showed in the people around him. His family was his greatest source of pride and happiness, and the love he had for them will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A private family Memorial will be held at a later date.
