John Anthony Salazar, known lovingly to many as John Anthony or simply "Bon," passed away on September 4, 2026, at his home in Rosharon, Texas, after a long and courageous battle with MELAS. He was 51 years old.

Born on November 15, 1974, in Freeport, TX to Jesse and Teresa Salazar. John grew up in Clute, TX among family and friends. He carried a deep devotion to them throughout his entire life. If you knew John, you knew there was never a dull moment. He was a natural jokester, full of infectious joy, who could light up any room with one of his signature one liners. He brought laughter wherever he went, and to those who had the privilege of knowing him, he was nothing short of inspiration.

John was famous among family and friends as the resident weatherman and sportscaster. A fiercely loyal Houston sports fan, he might not always have remembered what happened last week, but he could rattle off player statistics and current standings without missing a beat, often using his own wonderfully creative nicknames for players that kept everyone laughing.

Even through his final years, he loved working out, cooking his famous menudo and taking care of his chickens. Without question, he was one of the toughest, strongest men you could ever meet.

A devoted Catholic, John held tightly to his faith through every trial. It was his anchor and an unfailing source of peace. His family takes great comfort knowing he is now resting in the arms of the Lord, fully healed and reunited with loved ones who went before him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jesse Salazar, Jr.; his sisters, Rosa Burton, Angela Salazar, and Mary Ann Krampota; and his nephew, Quintin "Bean" Burton.

John is survived by his son, Jordan; his sister, Carmen Wallen and her husband, Criss; his brothers-in-law, Sistos Lara,Sr., Glenn Krampota, and Glenn Burton; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who will carry his memory, humor, strength, and love with them always.

Pallbearers will be Brad Mallory, Jacob Mallory, Sistos Lara, Sr., Sistos Lara, Jr., Robert Lara, Fabian Trevino, Chad Salazar, Isaiah Robinson.

To honor his memory, John would leave us all with one final, familiar reminder:

"Be, be, be careful."

Rest easy, Bon.

You fought the good fight. You kept the faith.

And you filled our lives with a laughter and love we will never forget.
