Victor Eugene Bond III, lifelong resident of Texas, died Tuesday, May 28, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, Texas from complications following heart surgery on February 28th. Victor was born on June 11th, 1938 in Houston, Texas to Lois Bell Rymal and Victor Eugene Bond Jr. Victor, 79, was married to Virginia Lee Johnston June 28, 1960. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary next month. Victor and Virginia were the proud parents of four children, Darryl Eugene, Samuel Nathan, David Benjamin, and Carolyn Joy. They had ten wonderful grandchildren, Chelsea, Logan, Aaron, Allison, Chyna, Kayce, Nicole, Natalie, James, and Noelle. Victor loved to garden, dance, travel, listen to blue grass and blues music, play cards with his friends, and serve in his church. Victor was a patriotic man that took pride in his country and served in the US Navy after graduating from high school. Victor has been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for over 45 years. He has served within the church in many capacities. He and Virginia served as missionaries for the church for a year and a half in Vanuatu, a group of islands in the South Pacific. Victor shared the gospel with many and was instrumental in bringing in a fresh source of drinking water to a number of villages on several islands. He was humbled by the humanitarian work that he and his wife provided to improve the living conditions for the people of Vanuatu. After returning from his mission, Victor served as Bishop of the Brazosport Ward for nearly five years, and most recently served as a counselor in the church's Addiction Recovery Program. Victor was eagerly anticipating another missionary opportunity for him and his wife upon his recovery from heart surgery. Victor was a master gardener and found great joy in providing information, guidance, and even plants to people in the community so that they, too, could garden. He was particularly proud of his tomato crops and the 22 fruit trees in his backyard. Victor was well known for dancing twice a week at the American Legion and a local restaurant. Victor found joy in listening to live music --especially blue grass music. He traveled yearly to Branson for the blue grass festival. Victor loved his wife of nearly 58 years and the two of them traveled extensively after his retirement from HUD. They traveled to Belize, Spain, Panama, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia, and visited all 50 states in the United States. Victor enjoyed learning new things at every opportunity. He loved to share his knowledge with others and encouraged those he loved to continue their education. Victor is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Lee Johnston; children, Darryl (Candy) of Richwood, Texas, Nathan (Deborah) of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, Carolyn Swan (Ben) of Petersburg, New Jersey; and bonus daughter, Melodie, of Clute, Texas; grandchildren, Chelsea, Logan, Aaron, Allison, Chyna, Kayce, Nicole, Natalie, James Swan, and Noelle. Victor was predeceased by both parents; his sister, Barbara; and son, David Benjamin. The family wants to express their gratitude for all the love and service shown to them during their trial before and after Victor's passing. There were rides to and from the hospital, meals, yardwork, cards, and many other expressions of love and support showered upon the family. A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home on Dixie Drive in Lake Jackson, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 502 Southern Oaks Drive, in Lake Jackson on Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m.
