On July 26, 2021 Deborah Estelle Alongis of Quintana, Texas passed from this earth peacefully in her sleep.

Debbie came to the small town of Quintana from her home in Kalamazoo, MI in 1981 to follow her big brother Jeff and fell in love with the natural beauty and culture of island life. She poured her heart into building and enriching the community with numerous parks, pavilions, ponds, and sand dunes. Her green thumb adorned the island with palm trees, perennials, native foliage and wildflowers as far as the eye could see. She also dove into local government, first getting elected to town council in 1988, and eventually held the office of mayor from 1993-2001, returning to council from 2014-2021. At its largest population of around 60 registered voters, Debbie, along with her dear friend and mentor Sharon Cornett, led the town to numerous State of Texas community achievement awards and grants of up to $1 million. Under Debbie's lead, Quintana also earned the distinction of being the smallest town in the state of Texas to offer curbside recycling.

Debbie is survived by her ever faithful and loving husband Steve, sister and brother-in-law Cathy and Phil Christian, brothers Gigi Reynolds and John Reynolds, and daughter and son-in-law Amy & Wayne Brune. Also surviving Debbie are her three precious grandchildren Jacob (21), Daphne (10) and Luke (5), who were the absolute joy and light of her life.

A memorial service for Debbie will be held on August 5, 2021 at 10am at Grace Community Fellowship, 1495 FM 2004, Richwood, TX 77531, followed by a celebration of her life at the Discovery Event Center at Quintana Beach County Park, 330 5th Street Quintana, TX 77541 at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach program

I am so glad that Debbie and I were able to reach out with FB.
I'm sorry that she had to leave each of her loved ones. The message on FB from her daughter, Amy was so heart warming to read. I feel that Debbie will be missed for a very long time. She was a large part of life and I believe we are all better because of knowing her.

We had the privilege of meeting Debbie when we volunteered at the Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary for several years. What a wonderful person she was - so full of life and such an amazing advocate for the island. Her efforts have made such a difference to the conservation of habitat there. She will be sorely missed.

Debbie was Quintana. No other person put in the sweat and love for the island that she did. And, with all that effort was a constant love for all the people she close to and strangers who wandered across the ICW. She will be terribly missed.

My heart is breaking! I don't know how many times I meant to call so we could meet for lunch. It had been a while since we got together. How I loved our conversations, laughter and goofy antics when we would meet up, especially at the Sandbar. I loved her dearly! I will miss her, but will have such fond memories.

Debbie,

I will miss you so much. We share a love for Quintana and a bond as grandmas. You were Quintana. You and Steve have done so much for our little island. I will always remember you coming over to the park to cook and serve lunch to the volunteers at the Adopt-a-Beach cleanups year after year, the Mardi Gras parades and the Quintana Creed Festivals. You put the fun in Quintana. I will miss you coming over to visit and bringing Daphne to nature camp.
Prayers for Steve, the brothers and sisters, daughter Amy and especially Jacob, Daphne and Luke. I know the grandchildren are devastated at the loss of their beloved grandmother. I pray for comfort and healing of hearts.
