  • Guestbook
William Alexander Baker, 56 of Lake Jackson, passed away peacefully at his home in his favorite chair on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Born on February 1, 1961 to Mary Baker and the late Stephen Baker, William grew up in the Havenwood Subdivision in Richwood. He loved to tell of his adventures with his brothers and best friends in Havenwood. He graduated from Brazoswood High School in May of 1979. In August of 1980, William enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years stationed in Utah. That's where he first fell in love with snow skiing. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, William returned to the Lake Jackson area where he went to work for Dow Chemical. He would have celebrated 30 years of service in September. His colleagues became some of his greatest friends, and they affectionately referred to him as "Shake-N-Bake." Soon after starting at Dow, William fell for the love of his life and best friend, Gigi Cadenhead. On April 8, they celebrated 28 years of marriage during which they were blessed with two wonderful boys, Barrett and Blaine. William loved to fish and spent many days in the waterways in our areas with his friends. He loved classic rock and was always jamming to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, and Boston to name a few. He had a thousand comebacks for everything; he was a constant wit and loved to give everyone around him a hard time. That was his way of showing love. William was at home behind a barbeque pit. Feeding his family, friends, and coworkers brought him great joy. William loved his home, loved working on his home and creating a beautiful place for Gigi and their boys to live. He loved to travel especially to any mountains that involved snow skiing with his family. William and Gigi took their boys on countless trips, snow skiing in Colorado, driving through the Ozarks, and sight-seeing at the Grand Canyon. William and Gigi were blessed to go on an anniversary trip last year to Ohio, New York State, Niagara Falls, and Montauk Island where they both reconnected with old friends. But his favorite destination will always be the Frio River. William is preceded in death by his father, Stephen Baker, and two brothers, Stephen Baker and John Robert Baker. His memory will live on with his wife, Gigi Baker, and his sons, Barrett Baker (wife Brenda) and Blaine Baker. He will continue to be loved by his mother, Mary Baker, his in-laws, Claire and Earl Cadenhead, his sister Suzie Wessels (husband David), his brother Mark Baker (wife Sonja), his sister-in-law Schelli Martin (husband Jim), and his brother-in-law Chuck Cadenhead (wife Lisa). All the fun times spent with Uncle William will be remembered by his nieces and nephews, Brandyn Hargrove (husband David), Emilye Rodgers (husband Dean), Annie Shandley (husband Darren), Brooks Cadenhead, Cade Cadenhead, Joey Baker, Katie Riseman (husband Evan), Angelica Baker, Kevin Baker (wife Colleen), Cara Wessels, and Steve Wessels, and eight great nieces and nephews, including Carter Hargrove who loved his "Uncle Wiggum." We take comfort in knowing that William has seen the face of Jesus, and we will see him again one day in paradise. We will celebrate his life with a visitation at 1 pm on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Brazos Pointe Fellowship, 679 Hwy 332, Lake Jackson, TX with funeral service immediately following at 2 pm. William's final resting place will be one last float down the Frio River, "the river you remember for a lifetime."

The Haakman kids were shocked and sad to hear of William's sudden paasing. We were glad that he took time out to come to our Dad's funeral a couple of years ago. We have such fond memories of growing up in Havenwood and are sorry to lose one of our Havenwood 'family'. Mrs. Baker, Mark and Suzy, and William's wife and sons, we are praying for you during this difficult time.

Our Deepest Condolences for GiGi, her sons and related families. Many of us spent years with William in middle and high school, and I never saw him in a low mood, rather he was encouraging and complimenting others. William was a giving person, of his time, efforts and again, his compliments. He and his family had an open door policy, offered impromptu dinner, and introduced us to Winnebago camping at Garner State Park, as the obituary notes the Frio River. In giving his time, he made several trips to accompany me to my dermatologist in Galveston, and of course we'd go to the beach afterward. My parents and sisters Theresa and Andrea enjoyed his visits.
We swam in Bastrop Bayou, jumping from trees to the water, rode on trails in the woods, and began building a log cabin with the other buddies. He kept a smile on his face, a tune in his voice, and focused on others' attributes. We'll miss you William, and look forward to seeing you soon. Hans

My deepest condolences to William's family. I did not know him that well but he was in the Air Force with our son Alan (Bubba) Rogers who was also stationed in Utah. GiGi, I know your Mom and Dad quite well and I would have come to the services, but sadly our granddaughter's other grandmother passed away and her service was also at 2 o'clock this afternoon. I will keep your family in my prayers. Our precious memories sustains us until we meet them again. GOD's blessing for peace and comfort.

I will not be able to attend today's service but I wanted the family to know you are in my thoughts and prayers today. William was such a special person, and held his own place in the "Havenwood Hoods".
I will always remember with fond memories our days growing up, and a few of us will remember the back yard birthday parties and nights camping out on the Hiway 288 bridge! We were quite a bunch of adventurers!

Dear Gigi, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd like to share a story of how my Randy met your Wii
I am. When you guys moved into the neighborhood, William had made this big beautiful heart sign for Valentines Day that read "William loves Gigi". Randy went over & talked to William about it & they had a great laugh because Randy told William that now every husband in the neighborhood would have to try & top William Baker's Valentine gift. He came home laughing & telling me what great neighbors we had & what fun William was.
God bless you & your family & watch over you. You are in my thoughts & prayers.
