Shirley Mae Balusek Taunton, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at her home. She was born to the late Jessie Daisy Burgess and Marion Lee Burgess on December 23, 1930 in Orange, Texas. She was predeceased by her first husband, Elton Jim Balusek, the father of her three daughters, and by her second husband, James Roy Taunton. She was a longtime resident of Freeport / Lake Jackson, Texas. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Balusek, Janis Balusek, and Lenise Garratt (Gene), three grandchildren, Casey Miller, Chris Miller, and Jamie Fuller (Chase), four great grandchildren, Genevieve Miller, Miles Miller, Jake Fuller, and Eric Fuller. Our mother loved people and had many friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church Freeport for over 60 years. She was a lady of many talents, in fact I don't think there isn't anything she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. She owned a Conoco gas station and an ice cream shop (Bresler's 33 Flavors), was a evangelistic singer and made two albums, she was an avid fisher lady and a member of Bass'n Gals. She REALLY loved to fish, just three days before her death she was catching and releasing large mouth bass on the lake behind her home. She was also a fabulous cook and an awesome baker. Our mother knew her death was imminent due to stage five renal failure and an aortic dissection, yet she had the peace that only her God and Savior could give. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3. One of her favorite songs was, "Something Beautiful" by Bill Gaither. She had many trials and hardships like we all do, but she gave all her brokenness and strife to Him and He made something beautiful out of her life. Yes, He did! "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." Jeremiah 33:3. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with funeral service following at 2:00 pm on April 28, 2018 at Lakewood Funeral Home, 98 North Dixie Dr., Lake Jackson, TX 77566, Phone - 979-297-6464. There will not be a graveside service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lakewoodfuneralchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to: First Baptist Church, 501 S Brazosport Blvd., Freeport, TX 77541, Phone - 979-233-5347.

Dear Kathy, Janis and Lenise,
I was so sad to hear about your Mom. She has been such a dear friend of Mom's for so many years and so close to our family. It is hard to say goodbye to our loved ones but it brings comfort knowing that she loved Jesus. When I saw your Mom (only 3 weeks ago in Freeport) she was talking to Mom about Heaven and the Joy it would be one day. She talked about her 3 girls and how much she loved y'all. She also talked about how kind Sherlyn had been to her. She shared with Mom and I how much she wanted her family and friends to truly know the love of Christ and the peace He brings. Your Mom and my Mom had so many fishing stories! What fun memories they made together over the years! May God bless each of you and my prayers continue for you and your family. Love, Pauline

So very sorry to hear of the loss of Aunt Shirley.

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 NIV
17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
