Elda "Rae" Goodman Zylks was born on July 9, 1925 in Bessmay, Texas to Scott L. and Mable Gertrude (Chapman) Goodman.

Her family moved to Baytown, Texas when she was a young child. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, Rae went to work for Humble Oil in the accounting department where she contributed to efforts at home during WWII.

After the war she "met her match" and married Jack M. Zylks in 1950. They started their married life in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but soon moved to the Brazosport area to become part of a growing Dow Chemical community.

Rae was a worker and gave much time to civic and church causes. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a faithful member of St. Timothy's and a loyal friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Zylks, and by her three younger brothers - Kenneth Goodman and wife Jannette, Eugene Goodman, and Paul Goodman and and wife Susie.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Zylks Sonom and husband Don and her son John Karl Zylks and wife Samantha as well as four grandchildren Austin Smirch and wife Emily, Sara Rae Sonom, Abby Michelle Zylks and Ruth Ann Sonom. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Goodman.

Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church; 200 Oyster Creek Drive; Lake Jackson, Texas 77566 with Rev. Brendan Kimbrough officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church.

Mary and John I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a wonderful lady and a really good friend to our family. I remember how she and your Dad always made time to visit Mary Glyn after she moved to the retirement home in Houston due to her failing health. Your Mom really did touch many lives with her caring, loving, positive outlook and her wonderful sense of humor.

Mary & John I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about the passing of your Mom. I can't tell you how I cherish the memories of spending time with her and your Dad whether it was sitting in the kitchen, in the back yard or going to Kyle Field, they were all special. Your Mom was so caring and loving, and had the most infectious laugh. What a priceless lady she was. She effected so many lives and I'm extremely lucky to say mine was one.

Rae and Jack were my next-door neighbors for nearly ten years and I was blessed to live next door to them and to have Lowell Good on the other side and Heidi Wills two doors down.

Rae had the greenest thumb I think I've ever seen. She could grow anything and taught me a lot about things in the yard, which was great for a first-time homeowner.

She was very active into her 80's when we moved away and I hope we can all follow her and Jack's examples of not letting moss grow under their feet.

Rest well, Mrs. Zylks. We enjoyed every encounter we had with you and are glad to have been your neighbors.
