Darrell Calvin Copenhaver
October 30, 1940 - December 31, 2018

Darrell Calvin Copenhaver, 78, of Lake Jackson, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, December 31, 2018, after a short illness due to complications from Parkinsonís disease. Darrell was born in Sparks, WV, on October 30, 1940, the son of Cecil and Evelyn Copenhaver. He joined the United States Army after graduating from Nicholas County High School in Summersville, WV. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Darrell moved to Warren, OH, where he met and later married the love of his life, Sandra Darlene Flannery on June 26, 1965. Darrell and Sandy spent over 40 love filled years together before she passed away in 2006. Their only child, Darrell Edward, was born in 1967. Darrell and Sandy moved to Lake Jackson, TX in 1997 to live closer to their son, following Darrellís retirement from Packard Electric in Warren, where he worked 34 for years as a tool and die maker. After moving to Texas, they were further blessed by a daughter-in-law, Kristina Johnston, and two granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah. Darrell was always a very loving, caring and giving husband, father and grandfather, and his favorite activities were caring for his family and watching his granddaughters activities and performances. Beyond his family, Darrellís passions were working with his hands and driving and working on his cars, including his pride, an original 1967 Shelby Mustang. He also enjoyed traveling and watching all forms of auto racing, from local tracks to NASCAR races, with Dale Earnhardt and Jr. being his favorite drivers. A very special thank you to Mark Guess, a constant friend and caregiver for the last several years, and to all of the wonderful caregivers from the Revered Texan, Home Instead and Help Inc. that have cared for Darrell during his last year on this earth. Darrell is survived by his son, Darrell E. Copenhaver and wife Kristina Johnston of Lake Jackson, TX; his granddaughters Jessica and Sarah Copenhaver; a sister, Hilda Rapp of Craigsville, WV; three brothers, James D. Copenhaver and wife Louise of Champion, OH, Roger Copenhaver and wife Dorothy of Summersville, WV, and Terry Copenhaver and wife Vickie of Fayetteville, WV. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra D. Copenhaver, his parents, and a sister, Flora A. Tucker. A funeral service for local friends and family will be held at 10AM on Saturday, Jan 5, 2019 at First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, with interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery. A memorial service for family in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia will be held in Warren, OH at a later date.
