Shirley Jelinek Jones, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, April 1, 2019. Shirley was born to Clara & Walter Jelinek on Aug. 8, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On Oct. 15, 1946, Shirley married Ray Jones and headed to Texas where they remained married for 63 years. They raised three boys in Lake Jackson Jeff, David, & Scott. Shirley also claimed her stepdaughter, Alleene Groves, as her own. She worked for Dr. W. D. Nicholson for over 25 years. In 1976, Shirley & Ray retired to the hills surrounding Fredericksburg, Texas where they enjoyed 34 years of retirement together. Shirley moved back to Lake Jackson in 2011 after Ray's death to be close to her family.

Shirley was a faithful servant to the Lord in that she taught Sunday School & Vacation Bible School for over 50 years. She was a great prayer warrior too. She loved to garden and spent many happy days with her flowers & fruit trees. She never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to anybody about anything.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara & Walter Jelinek, her husband Ray, a sister Beverly Fechtmeyer, and her brother Clyde Jelinek.

She is survived by her sister Lucille Anderson of Ft. Collins, Co; three sons - Jeff Jones (Caryn) of Buffalo, Texas; David Jones (Robin) of Clute, Texas; Scott Jones (CJ) of Lake Jackson, Texas; a stepdaughter- Alleene Groves (Don) of Georgetown, Texas; her grandchildren Jennifer Stafford, Lindsey Neyland, Lauren Brittain, Josh Jones, Beth Clark, Nik Jones, Douglas Groves, Marilyn Harren, & LeeAnn Groves; and 16 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Lake Jackson on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 2 PM. A reception for all will be held after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to First Baptist Church Lake Jackson Children's Ministry.

Shirley was one of my favorite sister-in-laws. She still sent me a birthday card every year. God rest her soul.

Dear Family, Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you on the loss of our dear Shirley. We are sorry that we can not make it to the service tomorrow but the weather here is terrible today and possible flooding tonight and tomorrow. We are thinking of you and know that Shirley is home now with Ray and she is no more in pain. We love all of you and are sad that we won't be able to share this day with you.

I always enjoyed visiting with Aunt Shirlee, she was delightful and always had something funny to say. Enjoyed many visits in Fredericksburg, while seeing my dad and visiting with her family that was visiting there also.
So grateful for these memories.
Love

I am Clyde's eldest daughter Laura. I have always thought so highly of my Aunt Shirley. She was one of the sweetest and most precious Godly woman I have ever met. She exuded joy every where she went. What a privilege and a honor it was to be her niece. I know God is saying well done thou good and faithful servant !!!!! I know there is a celebration going on in heaven all welcoming her with open arms.

When God made Aunt Shirley he broke the mold! I remember talking with her about three years ago and she was still mowing her lawn at 90 years old. Don't know any other 90 year olds let alone a women doing that! She could always reframe something unfortunate into a teachable moment with a positive outcome. My only wish we could have lived closer as she and my Mom always enjoyed each eachother's company. My family joins me in wishing the Jones family condolences and happy memories of an incrediable woman!

I was so sorry to hear of your passing Shirley! I have such wonderful memories of Gerald and I visiting you and Ray when we would come visit with Caryn and Jeff! I can't remember what it was called the night we drove through the mountains and Ray keeping us entertained with all of the stories. I am thinking it had something to do with the Indians but not sure. You have such a wonderful family that will miss you so much, but they will have so many wonderful memories to help them through the sadness they are feeling now. I pray that God wraps each one of you in his arms of peace and love , until we all meet again! Love to all!
