On Saturday, January 16th at 11 pm, Nelda Turner Luker left her earthly bonds to reunite with her husband Marvin (Chris) and son Darrall Luker in glory. After a long struggle, she succumbs to illness and is now in a better place. She leaves behind her children; Glinda Springs (Ken), Karen Odom (David), David Luker, Chris Luker, and Jason Luker (Jeanne). Nine grandchildren: Emily Beckett, Sarah Grossman (Patrick) Alex Springs, Michael Odom (Elizabeth), Andrea Odom, Sara Parada, Matt Odom (Shelbie), Emma Luker, Annie Luker, and Sam Luker. Thirteen great-grandchildren Ella, Courtenay, Kahleen, Dexter, Jacie, Mason, Landon, Bella, Katherine, Caroline, Allison, Olivia, David, and Saylor, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and the hundreds of lives she touched along the way.

Nelda was born on October 23rd, 1938, to Dennis and Fay Turner in Velasco, Tx along with her brothers Roland and Norman. They grew up in Brazoria County, Texas and Nelda graduated from Brazosport High School. She would meet and marry Marvin (Chris) Luker soon after where they would settle down in Clute, Tx, and raise 6 children.

Nelda had many hobbies through the years from sewing to painting and all things in between. Likely known more for the hundreds of wedding cakes she did for folks over the years…..she always had her hand in something creative. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Clute and served in many ministries. She was involved in the order of the Eastern Star. As health permitted, she also served her community for many years as a local election official. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother she will be sorely missed…

Funeral services will be at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 21st at 1pm. Visitation will be held from 12pm to 1pm.

May God comfort the family. I met and got to know Nelda through the election process. She was a excellent worker who cared that things were done correctly. She will be missed.
