Kathleen Anne Word Shaw, known to her friends as Kathy, and her family as Maw, passed away on June 20, 2021, at the home in Freeport, Texas, she shared with her husband, Wallace Shaw, for most of their almost 60 years of marriage. They were married on September 2, 1961, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in Bellaire, Texas.

She had three children, Hampton Lee Shaw, Robert Freeman Shaw, and Mary Killmer Shaw; two grandchildren, Shannon Shaw Rivera and Robert Lee Shaw; and a great granddaughter, Olivia Grace Rivera .

Kathy was predeceased by her son, Robert Shaw; both of her parents, Robert and Helena Word; and by her sister, Helena (Teetie) Word.

Kathy was born on October 15, 1940, in Houma, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at Austin, in 1962. After graduation for UT, she continued to Hook'em every Saturday during football season. After raising her children, Kathy began a career in tax preparation at H & R Block. She received recognition by the IRS as an enrolled agent. After several year, she began her own successful tax business.

She was an active member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport for many years. Family was the most important part of her life. She was always involved in her children's and grandchildren's school and extracurricular activities, never miss ed a sports event or choir concert. One of the highlights of her year was the annual vacation to Surfside Beach her family took for over 45 years.

A wake service with rosary, followed by visitation with the family, will be at Lakewood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, followed by burial at Restwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in her honor to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary's or to the Parent Teacher Organization at Freeport Elementary.

Jay and I send our love and condolences. While we will miss Aunt Kathy so much we sure do have so many great memories to hold tight and cherish. Jay told me that Aunt Kathy was always such a fan of the two of us and our marriage. She kept us in her heart and prayers always. And we do the same for all of you. Love and miss you all. -Carrie and Jay

Thinking of the Shaw family in this difficult time. I will always remember the great times spent with Maw at the beach house. Maw always welcomed me into the family and I will never forget it.
