John Alan Luckenbach of Lake Jackson passed away October 6, 2022. He was born January 28, 1947 in Sugarland, Texas to Austin Albert and Mollie Sue Luckenbach. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judie Sue Luckenbach Woolam. He is survived by his nephew Kyle Woolam and wife Bonnie, their children Luke, Drew and Samantha, niece Martha Bennett her children Peighton and Pyper. A Celebration of Life will be held October 15, 1:00pm, Lakewood Funeral Chapel, Lake Jackson, Texas with David Luckenbach officiating. Johnny (Luke) graduated from Brazosport High School in 1965 and received a bachelor's degree from Lamar University in 1969 where he served as the mascot Cardinal Big Red. He would soon move to Baton Rouge, LA to begin his career in sales for Crane Valve. His knowledge and easy manner proved ideal and soon earned him a promotion which took him to Chicago. While there he ventured out of valve sales in to high end real estate with American Invesco. His skills translated well as he soon became top salesman. In 1976 he opted for a short hiatus in Colorado Springs to test out the snow for a couple of seasons with a good friend from college. Their travels are that from which legends are made. His next adventure took him back to southern California and back into the single scene. He would meet Carol who had two children of her own and they would eventually marry. Johnny adored the children but unfortunately the marriage did not last and they divorced just a few years later. Johnny would move back to Houston in 1981, still under the employ of Walworth. Being closer to home afforded him more time with his parents, sister, niece and nephew, particularly around the holidays. Walworth would be acquired by a Mexican company which led to a significant travel south of the border. John would become fluent in Spanish and thoroughly enjoyed his travels particularly to Cozumel where he loved to scuba dive and perhaps indulge in a few margaritas. After several years in the valve industry, Johnny would decide to take on a simpler life and in 2009 moved down to South Padre Island. He would take on a variety of jobs to include dealing cards and craps on a casino ship out of Corpus Christi and bookkeeping for several local businesses. Amid health concerns Johnny returned to Lake Jackson in 2019 and moved in with his sister, Judie. While they always had a special relationship, the opportunity for them to spend their final years caring for each other and engaging in their playful banter proved priceless.

Johnny was witty, intelligent and charismatic. He had a great big smile and a laugh to go with it. He always had an adventure planned and had plenty of loyal, lifelong friends who were more than happy to join. He was loved by all who came in contact with him and he loved us all right back. He will be sorely missed.
