Horace Rex Colvin, age 82, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on August 17, 2020, as a result of surgical complications. Rex was born on April 13, 1938, in Bernice, Louisiana, to William H. and Margie Colvin.

The family relocated to the Brazosport area in the early 1940's and were pioneers in the establishment of Lake Jackson. Rex graduated from Brazosport High School in 1955 and from Rice University in 1960 with a degree in chemical engineering. While attending college, Rex married Lucy Lester in June of 1959. After graduation, Rex and Lucy returned to Lake Jackson and he began his career at Dow Chemical, spanning more than 30 years until his retirement. During his tenure at Dow, Rex also served on the Lake Jackson City Council for many years.
Rex was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson and fulfilled many roles including Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was instrumental in the establishment of The Colvin Missionary House, located on the site of his childhood home. He loved God and the church and continuously helped fulfill the church's mission.

An avid sports fan, Rex began his love of baseball at an early age and continued playing the sport throughout high school and at Rice University. He followed the Houston Astros as well as the Houston Rockets each season. Rex truly enjoyed the game of golf and spent many Saturday mornings on the course with his golfing buddies. He also enjoyed many years of playing bridge with his long-time friends.

Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy; parents, William H. and Margie Colvin; his in-laws, Ned and Verna Jack Lester; nephew, David Lester Moody; and great-nephew, Jonathan Unger.
He is survived by daughter, Kay Wright and husband, Rick; daughter, Carol Sheehan and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Angela Styron (Aaron), Amy Wright, Meghan Prokop (Ross), and Brian Sheehan (Amy); great-grandchildren, Camden and Carson Styron, and Lincoln Prokop. Rex is also survived by his sister, Violet Heath (Billy); sister-in-law, Jane Moody (Roger); and numerous adoring nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at First Baptist Church, 401 Yaupon, Lake Jackson, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with service following at 11:00 a.m. Final arrangements by the Turner Family at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Rex will be missed by all who knew him as either family or friend. He truly had a servant's heart and was eager to lend a helping hand. Rest In Peace, Dad!

Our family grew up in LJ in the early 1950's. My two brothers Donald Wayne and Louis Ray White were members of FBC as young kids and were involved in the RA program. Doing the many years in LJ, Rex was a soft spoken man, but a great leader whom was meek and well respected. Rex will be surely missed by many.

I am so sorry for your loss. My memories of him as one of the 'Dads' at church will always be a treasure to me. I also remember the magic tricks he had in his desk drawer when we were kids and he would bring them out and perform if we begged and begged. He will be greatly missed.
