Linwood "L.D." Smith of Angleton was born March 1, 1933 in Burke, Angelina County, Texas and was called to Our Lord in Heaven on May 12, 2021. L.D. graduated from Diboll High School in 1950 and went on to attend Sam Houston State University and played college baseball. The United States Army drafted L.D. in 1953. L.D. never knew he had an Uncle Sam nor had so many friends and fellow country-men who wanted his service. He felt obligated to oblige. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX where he served as Corporal in the Radar Battalion and spent many days and nights in White Sands, New Mexico learning how to intercept bombs from enemy planes. Given the Korean conflict ended, L.D. was placed on reserve duty in 1955 and honorably discharged in 1961. L.D. started his professional career at Dow Chemical Freeport, TX in 1956. He began working as a machinist in training and worked himself to Machine Shop Foreman overseeing numerous personnel. He retired from Dow Chemical after 30.7 years. Although L.D. worked hard all his life from a young age, he also played hard. He was an avid and passionate hunter, fisherman, vegetable and fruit gardener, Mr. Fix It and handyman. Some of L.D.'s favorite times and memories were spent in the outdoors with family, friends, or as an instructor for Texas Parks and Wildlife youth hunts at McFaddin Ranch. Hunting, Fishing, Loving every day…...that was L.D.! L.D. was also passionate about his love for family and Christ. In early 1960s, L.D. was a founding member of Angleton Road Church of Christ and remained until death, served as an Elder for numerous years as well as teaching Sunday School. L.D., we will miss you here in the flesh and blood. Your spirit will carry on in all of us. We know you are in a better place. Linking again with loved ones doing the things you love to do.

L.D. is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Billie Smith: daughter and son-in law Lisa and Dean Strauser of Spring, TX; Grandson Dylan Strauser of Houston, TX; Sister-in-Law Betty Goins; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in his death by his sons Greg Smith and Keith Smith; Parents James Claude and Tusie Mable Smith; Brother Jack Smith (Beatrice); Sisters Hazel Parker (Howard); Mabel Smith (Jim); Louise Weisinger (Boots); Dorothy Franks (Thomas); Brother-in-Law Jack Goins.
