Judie Sue Luckenbach Woolam, 78, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022. Services will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, February 26, at the First Methodist Church Lake Jackson. Visitation will also be Saturday from 1:00pm to Service time at First Methodist Church. Arrangements are being made by Lakewood Funeral Directors.
Judie was born October 1, 1943 to Austin Albert (Luke) and Mollie Sue Steed Luckenbach in Atlanta, Texas. She spent time as a toddler in Atlanta with the Steeds when her father was deployed overseas before settling in Rosenberg, Texas. Her family moved to Lake Jackson in 1950 where Luke was an engineer for Dow Chemical until his retirement. Judie graduated from Brazosport High School in 1962 and graduated University of Texas-Austin with a major in English and a minor in History in 1966. She married Thomas Earl Woolam and traveled to Germany where he was deployed before they settled in his hometown of O'Donnell, Texas. They had two children Kyle Thomas and Martha Christine Woolam. In 1982, Judie returned to her home in Lake Jackson with her son and daughter where she taught English at Brazoswood High School until her retirement in 2011. Judie's true passion was for her children, grandchildren and her many students throughout those years as an educator. She was a reader enjoying both classic literature and her favorite little "easy read" novels. After retirement, she was active in the choir at First Methodist Church Lake Jackson and TOPS. She was an avid sports fan following Longhorns, Aggies, and Houston sports teams. In recent years, she enjoyed notoriously long lunches with good friends. She was a witty, intelligent, self-less and caring friend, sister, mother and grandmother. Judie was preceded in death by her parents Austin Albert and Mollie Sue. She is survived by her brother John Alan Luckenbach of Lake Jackson; children Kyle Thomas Woolam of McKinney and Martha Christine Bennett of League City; daughter in law Bonnie Lea Jarvis Woolam; and five grandchildren Luke Benjamin Woolam, Drew Thomas Woolam, Samantha Marie Woolam, Peighton Grace Bennett and Pyper Faith Bennett. The family suggests memorials to the First Methodist Church Lake Jackson or to a favorite charity

Judie came into my life when I was only 9 yrs old. She served as a big sister at times and always as a friend. Judie has the kindest heart of anyone I have ever known! I used to sit 2 rows in front of her in church just so I could be completely enveloped by her beautiful voice.
Judie you are already so missed! The world has lost an earth bound angel and heaven has just given you your wings!
Much Love Kyle, Bonnie and Martha so sorry I am unable to be there.

Judie was my roommate at The University of Texas in Austin and has remained my friend for all these years. She has been steadfast in our friendship for over 60 years, and I will miss her so much. I am thankful she is now with The Lord and suffering no more.

Kyle, Martha, and family,
My thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of your mother. I remember her as a kind and classy lady. My mom used to play bridge with her. As you cherish her memory in the coming days, remember she is no longer in pain. My thoughts and prayers continue for you.

So it has been a week now. I am so sad you are gone. I think about our times together. I think about the times I won't have with you. I think about the times I wish I could hug you one more time and that you could see the girls get older and watch the women they become. Then I remember Grandpa died when I was young, and I know for sure he watched over me for so many years and never let me down. He hugged me when I needed. He was my Angel when I needed. I have come to terms with you will only be an angel in the sky but you will be with us forever. I love you so much and I will miss you so much but I know God has a beautiful, sweet, caring, Angel in Heaven that we can smile about. Bye Mom

Judie and I grew up together from 1st grade through highschool. We were always involved in music. I loved her so much and will miss her greatly. I'm so glad that we were both at our recent high school reunion where we had a great time to visit and "catch up!" I pray that her family will find peace knowing that she's singing in heaven.

Martha and families, I sure will miss Judie. She has been a delightful friend, lunch buddy with the B'Wood crowd and such a sweet, sweet soul. Her passing leaves a hole in my heart, but I rejoice in her promotion to glory! Praying for God's peace for all.
