In Loving Memory of Almond Lorenzo Davenport
Mr. Almond Lorenzo Davenport went to meet his final and eternal rest on Monday, 21 March 2022.
Although the family feels a tremendous sense of loss, we are all so grateful knowing that he is now reunited with his wife and other loved ones.
Dave as he was known to his friends and family was born on November 02, 1931, in Goodrich, Texas. He was the oldest of two son's and spent his early formative years learning to hunt and fish the areas surrounding his boyhood home in Oyster Creek, Texas. His father Earnest "Red" Davenport was known far and wide as an excellent hunter and fisherman, so the summers and winters saw Grandpa Red teaching Dave, Willie, and many youths in the community the finer points of both. Red also saw fit to teach both Dave and Willie how to swim, picking them up and chucking them into the creek, he could be heard shouting out use your arms and legs, you'll be fine! Dave was taught to work with his hands at an early age and as he grew, he discovered he had an affinity as a heavy equipment operator. He was able to operate any piece of machinery he sat in or on and throughout his life, helped to lay roadways, build levies, and build the industrial framework for the Dow Chemical Plant's in the area. He was very proud of the work he did, traveling with his family to the Rio Grande Valley and building the Levies and Dam's in that area as well as helping to build Apartment complexes throughout Houston and Brazoria County. He was the proud proprietor and owner of D&C Equipment Rentals and successfully ran that business for over a quarter century. He was well loved by everyone that knew him and made lifelong friends throughout the country.
In early days of 1966 fate intervened in Dave's life and he stumbled upon what would later become the last love of his life, Joyce Estelle Smith Davenport. Dave met Joyce through a chance encounter in the checkout line of Weingarten's Supermarket where she worked as a Check-out Girl, after a few return trips for groceries and a brief courtship Dave was surprised when Joyce proposed marriage, to which Dave happily accepted and they were officially married in Newton, Texas on February 26, 1966. Dave and Joyce were both previously married, so their union created a new blended family. This past February would have seen Dave and Joyce celebrate 56 years of marriage. Their blended union led to a large family. He leaves behind a legacy of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dave and Joyce spent the early years of their marriage living in the Oyster Creek area, but eventually settled in the Village of Jones Creek in the home they would spend the rest of their lives in and would raise their seven children in. That home saw births and deaths over the years, it held a lifetime of happy memories and would be the home that Dave passed away in. Dave never met a stranger and developed lifelong friends everywhere he went. He passed down his passion for hunting and fishing to his children and grandchildren. Dave was also known to cut a mean rug and you would find him and Joyce dancing the night away with his mother, his brother, as well as friends and family at the Rambling Rose. New Year's Eve celebrations would find their garage turned into a dance floor with songs of Marty Robbins, Ray Price, and other beloved country artists playing on the stereo. Sons, Daughters, friends and family could be seen spinning around the floor dancing a Schottische or Cotton Eyed Joe! Later in life, Dave could be seen on the river if the weather was right, casting a line from his boat or running a trot line. Dave never lost his passion for hard work and could be see working in his yard, or on his house and when the night rolled around you would find Dave and Joyce sitting side by side in front of the tv watching RFD TV, listening to songs and sounds of the Artists they so dearly loved and occasionally if the song and mood were right, you could see them gently swaying to the sound of a love song or simply holding each other's hands.
How do you capture a lifetime, how do you put into words the pain you feel or the emptiness that is left, the happiness of knowing that pain and suffering has ended, the memories that you hold dear and laughter and tears that come with each remembrance?
Our Father, our Patriarch, the last of our original bloodline is gone, he was a tough, stubborn man, that showed his love to his family by getting up every day and going to work to earn a living and trying to create a better life for each of his children. He had a big heart and loved his family unconditionally.
His departure from this earth was unexpected and has left an emptiness inside all of us, he was a strong role model and he taught each of us the true meaning of hard work, sacrifice, commitment, love, respect and loyalty were.
I hope you are reunited with Momma in Heaven; I hope you have found peace and happiness. Just know that today, tomorrow and for always, you will forever reside here on earth with us in that special place of our heart, that place where you will always be our home.
Dad you will be forever loved.
Dave was preceded in death by his Wife Joyce Estelle Davenport, Father Earnest Edward Davenport, Mother Edna Louise Davenport, Brother William Eugene Davenport, Sister-in-law Daphne Davenport and his Grandson Randy Knight and Great Grandson Ian Goss.

To the Davenport Family:
I only knew Mr. Davenport for a short while. He was a very kind person and, as you said - he never met a stranger! He made me feel like a long-time friend! Please accept my sincere condolences and may Almond rest in peace.
