Donna Shirlene Armstrong

of Lake Jackson, TX

July 1, 1953 - February 4, 2023

  • Guestbook
Donna Shirlene Armstrong, 69, of Lake Jackson, TX, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Shirlene was born on July 1, 1953 in Freeport, TX. She was a 1972 graduate of Brazosport High School. She met and married the love of her life, Charles Armstrong, on February 7, 1976. Their union was blessed with three beautiful children, Mitchell, Angela, and Charlie. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years and was actively involved at her children's school and with their sports. She was always the team mom and would buy pizza and goodies for all the kids. She thoroughly enjoyed making kids happy. Shirlene was so generous and kind. Her laugh was infectious and she would light up a room as soon as she walked in. Her love for people, especially Elvis Presley, was incomparable. She was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of St. Mary's in Freeport, TX, where she taught CCE classes, helped in the nursery, and with the annual church bazaar. When her children became older, she went to work at the family business, Theriot Inc. She was there for 15 years. As her children became adults, Shirlene's family grew. She became Nana to three wonderful grandsons. She held many titles over the years, but this one by far, was her favorite. "Her Boys", as she called them, brought her so much joy. She loved them dearly and they were her world. She would constantly spoil, snuggle, and serenade them with the song "You Are My Sunshine." She was the best Nana anyone could ask for. "Her Boys" will have many special memories. Shirlene was extremely involved with Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School where she volunteered her time and talents. She was very popular with the students and became Nana to many of them as well. She was an amazing mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. She loved fiercely and was such an angel. She was always there to support us in everything we did. She was tiny but she was mighty. Her smile and laughter that lit up our world will now brighten the heavens.
Shirlene is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Armstrong; infant son, Mitchell Armstrong; father, Clevence Theriot; brother Ronnie Ray; brothers-in-law Jimmie Armstrong, Kenny Hilton, and Dennis Leissner; sister-in-law Donna Leissner; and nephew Bradley Hilton.
Shirlene is survived by her daughter, Angela Lawson (Michael); son, Charlie Armstrong; mother, Shirley Theriot; grandsons, Jamison Lawson, Jax Lawson, Cadyn Armstrong; sisters-in-law Betty Hilton, Margaret Bartsch (Ed) and Marie Armstrong along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Active pallbearers will be James Armstrong, Chad Sanders, Devin Peters, Dakota Peters, Dustin Arriaga, and BJ Webel.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and OLQP Class of 2022.
Shirlene's family would like to say a special Thank You to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the ICU at HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland who helped in her care. You are wonderful!
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, Saturday February 11, 2023 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, the family will receive friends between 8:30am and 9:30am with Rosary at 9:30am Saturday also at the church. Graveside will be at 2:00pm Saturday at Restwood Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at lakewoodfuneralchapel.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to OLQP.

My condolences to the family. Shirleen had a heart of gold, and will give you the shirt off her back. Seem to always be smiling, and that laugh is contagious. The life she had for her family cannot be measured and her grandsons or her biggest pride and joy you could not speak to her without her telling you something about one of them may each of you find comfort and the memories that she left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this difficult time but heaven is a little brighter right now.

My dearest Angela
I am so sorry about the passing of your mom. Your Mother always thought the most of you and bragged on you at every chance she had. I can't make the service. Ron has dementia and I can't get around very well without his help and I don't leave him alone. Getting old is not a fun time. Please know how much I'm thinking of you and your family. Maybe I can see you after you've had a chance to take care of your mom. Love. Kathy Mageors

To Shirlene s family and friends, I met Shirlene and Charlie at Gary Park in Freeport, 1987. She was always busy with the Little League and concession. Over the years stayed in touch. Her sparkling blue eyes and laugh were the best! As we grew older then it was about our grands! My mom had grew up with her parents back in their days! (Little Charlie went thru school with Seth and Jessica. I am so sorry for your loss. Shirlene will be missed. Prayers for all that knew her .

Shirlene was a much loved classmate. She was so kind and loving and accepting of everyone! It was always a joy to be in her presence. I never once heard a negative remark made by her, ever- not about life, any person, or a situation. We knew how sad she was after the death of her husband, but even then her statements were made with love and hope. She loved her family and posted their achievements, illustrating how proud they made her feel. I am honored to have grown up with this woman and to call her a friend! She will be missed by so so many!! RIP MY DEAR! I will miss your caring messages.

To my aunt that had more patience than anyone I've ever known. She was a soft spoken yet loud at times lady. Her laughter was infectious, and her love for her husband and family was obvious. She was definitely a person that people could lean on, and she never asked for that favor back. She loved the Lord, her husband, and family. She also was a giver, and would never lead you down a path incorrectly. Thank you Aunt Shirleen for being you. An Angel of God is an understatement for sure! We Love you, and we will miss you, but I know where your heart is. Also, tell everyone up there hello! ❤️

Deepest condolences to you and your family in this time of sorrow.

"And God Said"

I said, "God I hurt."
and God said, "I know."
I said, "God I cry a lot. "
and God said,
"That is why I gave you tears."
I said, "God I am so depressed."
and God said,
"That is why I gave you sunshine."
I said, "God life is so hard."
and God said,
"That is why I gave you loved ones."
I said, "God my loved one died."
and God said, "So did mine."
I said, "God it is such a loss."
and God said,
"I saw mine nailed to a cross."
I said, "God but your loved one lives."
And God said, "So does yours."
I said, "God where are they now?"
and God said,
"Mine is on my right and yours is in the light."
I said God, it hurts.
and God said, "I know."

My father's favorite poem. Before he passed, he loved to hand it out to friends and loved ones.

Shirlene was a neighborhood friend growing up. She was always fun to be around. Even though I have not lived in the Freeport area since 1975, every time I was in the area and saw her it was like we just saw each other last week. It was such a blessing to be able to keep up with her on Facebook and specially to get to see and visit with her at our 50TH High School reunion last year. I know all will miss her.
