Johnny Salinas sadly passed away from COPD in West Columbia, Texas on November 25, 2023 surrounded by his wife, his children and other Family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosendo Salinas and Amalia Garcia Salinas, sisters, Josie Garcia, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Mary Ann Gomez, brother, Pete Salinas, brother-in-law, Rosendo Garcia, sister-in-law, Sandy Salinas, nephew, Daniel Salinas and niece, Yvonne Lara.

Those left to cherish Johnny's memory is his loving wife of 51 years, Janie Salinas, his son, Johnny Salinas, Jr. (Alicia), daughters, Jerri Lynn Rhodes (Richard), Melissa Mezger (TJ), Jennifer Servin (Noe) and Veronica Montemayor (Anthony). Siblings, Rosendo Salinas, Severa Lara, Joe Salinas, and Mike Salinas. Johnny had fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren with one more on the way. He also had sisters in-law, brothers in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny Salinas was born in Danevang, Texas on August 29, 1944. Johnny, his parents and his siblings Rosendo and Josie moved to Freeport in 1945. He served in the Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1970. Johnny and his wife, Janie settled down in Richwood in 1975 to raise their family. He was a butcher by trade. He worked at several grocery stores and sometimes he would do meat processing or mow lawns on the side to provide for his family, especially during the Christmas Holidays. Even as his Family grew, he always wanted to be sure he gave something to everyone for Christmas. He LOVED Christmas and giving gifts made him happy. His hobbies included making homemade jerky, which EVERYONE LOVED. When he made a batch, everyone called him to place their order. Hot or Mild. Fortunately, one of his grandkids has the ''secret'' recipe. He also loved to go fishing or crabbing. It did not matter to him that the places he liked to go was overgrown with brush and you had to watch out for snakes or alligators. That was just a fun time for him. When he went crabbing, he always made a point to catch just enough crabs for his wife, his grown children and grandchildren. He would sometimes have to go crabbing a couple of times to be sure that all five of his children got their fair share. But the most important thing to Johnny was FAMILY. He loved his wife with all his heart and would pick special flowers just for her. He also LOVED that he had a big family. He loved when we all got together to celebrate birthdays, holidays or just because days. He was so proud of his Family. We are thankful that we were able to celebrate one more Thanksgiving together. Until we are together again, we will hold you in our hearts. Love you always
