Elsie Wright passed away on January 17th, 2024, just short of her 97th birthday. Elsie was born on March 3rd, 1927, to George and Evie Tucker in Guymon, Oklahoma. At the age of 3, the family moved to Boise City, Oklahoma. At the age of 5, the Depression hit and their family was forced to move with all their belongings, in an old Ford Truck, to Arkansas. They lived for a short time in both Kingston and Springdale before her dad moved to Denver to work on the new international airport. The family eventually followed. Elsie attended High School in Denver, and she always loved to tell stories from her time there.
When Elsie was 17, the family moved to Richland, Washington, where she worked in the mailroom for the Hanford Project. While in Richland, Elsie met a sailor named Bob Wright. They married after a short courtship. Elsie worked at the naval base in Pasco, Washington, while Bob was serving in the Philippines. When the war ended, Elsie and Bob moved to Oyster Creek in 1946, where she lived the past 78 years. Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a founding member of the Oyster Creek Methodist Church and an avid Astros fan. She loved gardening and spending time with family. Preparing Sunday lunch for her family was a great joy.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Bob and son Jimmy. She is survived by daughters Natalie Wright of Arlington, TX; Carolyn Cannon of Houston, TX; and son Herb Wright of Angleton, TX; seven grandchildren - Julie Stoddard, Jana Frederick (Mike), William (Buddy) Gonzales (Jenifer), Chip Sepulvado (Jamie), Jay Wright, John Wright (Sarah), and Patrick Wright (Mary Beth); and eighteen great grandchildren - Brooke, Ashley, and Owen Stoddard; Nick, Jake, and Olyvia Frederick; Elizabeth and Suzanna Gonzales; Grace, John, and Selah Sepulvado; Colton and Mallory Wright; Collin, Ella, and Ian Wright; Landon and Caden Wright.
Elsie's celebration of life will be Friday, January 26th at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson, TX, with family visitation at 10am, visitation at 11am, followed by a graveside service at 12pm - Restwood Memorial Park (1038 West Lake Jackson Rd Clute, Texas 77566).
