Gerald Alan Gimber, affectionately known as ''Gerry'' and ''Pawpaw,'' went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 27, in Lake Jackson, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith and adventure. Gerry was born on February 13, 1952, in Texas City; losing him will be felt for a lifetime by those who loved him and called him by his favorite names: Gerry, Dad and Pawpaw.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Crystal; daughter Leslie (Will) Bannister; daughter Lindsey (Tom) Albers and grandchildren Bleu, Liam, Eli and Zeb Bannister, and Bailey and Timothy Albers. He is also mourned by his brother Ken (Patti) Gimber,
as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Patricia Gimber.
Fortunate from a young age, Gerry grew up in a structured home with a strong faith foundation, attending church weekly. He accepted Christ in 1962 and spent much of his life studying the Word, engaging in prayer and leading Bible studies; he had a particular passion for evangelism and missions. Gerry experienced a life changing event while in Africa on a mission trip, and spoke of it often. Even as he
faced recent health challenges, Gerry remained steadfast in sharing the gospel and faith with everyone he encountered. In his retirement, Gerry loved leading and participating in study groups through Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), Community
Bible Study (CBS), and through his Sunday school class.
A true outdoor enthusiast, Gerry's love for nature was inspired by his grandfather, with whom he shared countless memories of hunting and fishing. As an adult, he spent many days on the water and in the fields with good friends, relishing the
moments when his sons-in-laws and grandchildren joined him on these adventures. His joyful spirit shone through as he recalled fishing in Alaska, Andros Island,Islamorada and, especially, the Texas coast. He loved fishing with piggy perch and cane poles alongside his grandchildren, and being at home in his old Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home, built in the same year he was born (1952) and right on the
lake. For Gerry, it was a dream come true.
Gerry dedicated his career to Dow Chemical, where he managed teams with a strong focus on safety and procedures for 33 years. Gifted with a scientific mind, he held multiple patents. He retired early in his mid-50s to spend more time on thewater, and embraced a newfound role achieving his Captain's license and leading guided fishing trips. He often joked he couldn't get the weather and client to coordinate. His passion for providing memorable experiences never wavered.
An avid reader and a lifetime learner, Gerry started every day reading the Bible. He loved obtaining knowledge and, later in life, even powered through the Trading Academy learning to strategically invest in the stock market. Gerry was an
excellent conversationalist, though he had a tendency to pontificate on every subject; ask any of his friends and older mentors. He valued relationships and was so grateful for time with others.
Gerry loved the Lord! His love for his wife, Crystal, and enjoyment with his children and grandchildren defined his life. He found peace in knowing he was leaving them with a strong foundation of faith and love. As his time on earth was
ending, Gerry praised the Lord and expressed his joy in the promise of eternal life, assuring us that he ''would keep some seats warm for us.''
We praise the Lord for the time we shared with him and, though hearts are heavy, we take comfort knowing that Gerry is already in heaven - likely teaching someone how to do something just as he always did. If you knew him, you knew teaching wasn't just a skill; it was his way of connecting and helping others. His children and grandchildren will always cherish the hours spent with their Pawpaw - learning to fly cast on the driveway, tie a fly, swing a golf club, perfect a tennis stroke, duck hunt in the marsh or master the art of sight fishing. These moments reflected the deep love he shared through every lesson.
In the spirit of gratitude and remembrance, the family will come together to celebrate Gerry's life on Friday May 2 at First Baptist Church Lake Jackson.
Visitation 9:30am / Service 10:30am.
Fully loved, fully forgiven and fully accepted by God. Not because you got it right
- but because Jesus did!
