Jackie's early years in Monticello, Florida formed a special bond with her grandparents Bennie and Charlie Clark and her cousins Julie, Marie, and Beverly. Through the years, Jackie, Julie, Marie, and Beverly traveled together for frequent Cousin Reunions all over the US.

Jackie graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1950. She married Hank Mixon the same year and made the first of many moves the military life brings to Naval air base near Memphis, TN.

Oakland, CA was the next move and where her two sons, Mickey and Vance, were born in 1951 and 1953. The next transfer was in 1954 back near Memphis, TN to Millington Naval air station, Nimitz field and where her daughter Debbie was born in 1955, followed by a 1956 move to Jacksonville, Florida's Naval air station. Jackie excelled again a civilian job on base, remaining there a single and determined mother of three children. In 1961 Jackie married Ed Gillispie, in Jacksonville, Florida. Shortly after their marriage, her Marine and new family transferred from Jacksonville, Florida to El Toro Marine base in Santa Ana, CA. This was Ed's twelfth year as a Marine and would be the last military move for Ed, Jackie, and the kids.

The family came to Freeport, TX where Ed grew up and wanted to plant roots with Jackie and the kids who were six, eight, and ten when Texas became their permanent home. Jackie immediately landed a job with Dow Chemical and the family settled on 9th street in Freeport, Texas.

Jackie excelled again in her job at Dow. Through her work ethic, integrity, and getting it done approach her job at Dow became a career. She began entry level and retired holding a position no woman had occupied at that time.

As Jackie's family multiplied, she could be found at ball games, dance recitals, school plays, anything she could get to while working and after retiring.

Another highlighted and lasting source of joy for the rest of Jackie's life was finding, meeting, and having a close relationship with her younger sister Jan Gregory in 1998 who was born years later when their father remarried. They both knew they had a sister out there and had been looking for each other for years. Jan is so loved by Jackie, Debbie, Vance and Mickey.

Jackie spent her final years near her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in central Texas at Arbor House Memory Care. The family sincerely appreciates the caregivers in all shifts who not only provided for Jackie but did so with genuine love for Jackie.

Jackie loved her family and friends deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation to a service organization of your choice.
