July 31, 1950 - April 28, 2025
With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Yolanda Sánchez Guel, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of God, who left this world on April 28, 2025, at the age of 74.
Yolanda was born on July 31, 1950, in Monterrey Nuevo León, Mexico. Even from an early age, she was known for her strength and compassion. In the early 1970s, following the loss of her beloved father, Yolanda, the eldest of 10 siblings, stepped into a nurturing role, helping to raise her younger siblings. To them, she was not just a sister - she was a second mother, a protector, and a guiding light.
In 1977, while visiting her brother in the U.S., she met the love of her life, and they were married shortly after. Together, they built a home filled with faith, warmth, and unwavering love. Their greatest blessings were their three children: Lorena, Mario, Jr. and Mayra Guel.
Yolanda's heart for service shone brightly through her work in the church. As the pastor's wife at Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana in Freeport, Texas, she led by example - organizing countless fundraisers, offering encouragement to all, and helping grow the church family. Even within the church, Yolanda's nurturing spirit never wavered; she became a spiritual mother and grandmother to many, offering guidance, comfort and unconditional love to all who walked through its door. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she delighted in sharing the word of God with others.
A woman of many talents, Yolanda found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of life. She loved cooking for her family and congregation, tending to her garden, and crafting thoughtful gifts to share with loved ones. Her creativity, kindness, and nurturing spirit touched everyone she met.
Even in the face of great challenges, Yolanda remained a fighter. After receiving a life-saving liver transplant in December 2023, she made a remarkable recovery and returned to caring for her beloved husband until his passing in late 2024. In the months that followed, she embraced her role as grandmother with joy and pride, celebrating every milestone and moment with her grandchildren.
Yolanda is preceded in death by her father, Isabel Sánchez Muñiz; her mother, Tomasa Ramírez Cervantes; her brother, Jose Sánchez; and her loving husband, Mario Guel, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Lorena Cabrera and her husband Miguel Cabrera and Mayra Guel and her partner Jose Uriostegui; her son, Mario Guel, Jr. and his wife Marisa Guel; and her cherished grandchildren: Isabella, Gabriel, and Abigail Cabrera; Olivia and Emily Guel; and her fur grandbaby Ace. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters Maria Guadalupe Sanchez; Maria Hilda Sanchez; Diana Elsa Sanchez and Sandra Sanchez and brothers Arturo Sanchez; Ruben Sanchez and Oscar Sanchez
Yolanda leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and resilience. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.

Of all the roles we live, being a parent is probably the most important. I had the pleasure of meeting Señor and Señora Guel on more than one occasion and the blessing of working with their son Mario for several years. Mario is the age of my children. He is the finest young man I know and has a wonderful wife. They both serve God and his people. I share all this to say, Yolanda Guel had to have been an exemplary mother. We'll done, good and faithful servant. Please lift Señora Guel's family in prayer comfort, and service in the months to come. This is the best way to honor her. The last three years have been exhausting for them all because they loved their parents (and grandparents) so dearly.

Mother, I do not know how I will go on without you. The pain of losing you is immense. But it is comforting knowing you are at peace with father and Jesus. My heart breaks because there are so many regrets. I wish I could turn back time and be a better son. You loved us with all your heart. I love you too mom, more than my heart could bear. Thank you mom for everything. One day we will all be reunited and celebrating in heaven.
