Stanley Wesley Griffin

of Lake Jackson, TX

December 18, 1938 - June 14, 2025

We'll start this by saying that Stan was not one to ''beat his own drum''. So we will simply tap on it a bit! He was born in Victoria, Texas, in 1938 to Wesley V. and Aileen(Lucy) Griffin. Stan enjoyed hunting rabbits and tending to the family's livestock. As a child, he and his family moved around a good bit as his Dad worked in the oilfield. His dad found work in towns like Lamesa, Coahoma, and Refugio before they settled in Big Spring, Texas. There, Stan worked as a newspaper delivery boy for the Big Spring Herald. Later he worked for the USPS delivering mail.

He left West Texas and arrived in the Freeport area in the mid-60's on the promise of a job that didn't come to fruition. But that turned out just fine as he happened to meet the love of his life, Gwen Bartay King and they wed in 1972. He ended up being hired by Dow where he worked mostly at LHC #7 for 30 plus years. Stan was a steadfast servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and it was seen in his many volunteer ministries. He loved participating in Awanas , FBC Brazoria Prison ministry, the Texas Port Ministry and numerous others. If you ever met him, you would quickly know the depth of his honesty, faith and class.

He is preceded in death by his beloved Gwen Griffin and his parents.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, (Jay and Becky King) of Brazoria, Texas; grandchildren, Brittney Arechiga of Lake Jackson, Texas, Stephanie Arechiga Garbark(Chris) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Griffin King of Angleton, Texas, Anthony King of Brazoria, Texas, and Jayden King of Brazoria, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kamauri and D' Anthoni Davis of Lake Jackson, and Gracie and David Garbark of Pittsburgh.

Viewing will take place at Lakewood Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 23, 2025, with the service on June 24, 2025, at First Baptist Church Brazoria at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service at Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Cemetery in Jones Creek will follow. Afterwards, friends and family are welcome to return to First Baptist Brazoria as they are graciously providing a luncheon.

Papa Stan we miss you already, but we know your new address and we'll all visit you someday! In lieu of flowers, we ask that you might donate to the Texas Port Ministry and/or the First Baptist Church of Brazoria or Gulf Prairie Presbyterian Church in Jones Creek.
