Melissa Alyn Rieschick, 48, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on July 24, 2025.
Melissa was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, humor, and unwavering compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. For 26 years, she devoted her career to protecting and advocating for the most vulnerable members of her community through her work with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Her tireless dedication to children and families reflected her selfless heart and lifelong calling to make a difference.
Melissa was a lifelong learner and dedicated student. She earned her bachelor's degree from Peru State College and later completed her master's degree at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, furthering her education to better serve her community through her career.
Outside of her work, Melissa was very creative and found joy in many forms of artistic expression. She loved making jewelry and was a passionate scrapbooker, sharing her talents by running her own digital scrapbooking website, where she designed templates for others to use. She also poured her heart into traditional scrapbooking, lovingly creating and gifting personalized albums filled with cherished memories for her family.
Music was another defining part of Melissa's life. She had a beautiful singing voice and expressed her love of music in countless ways - singing in her church choir, performing karaoke, belting out songs on road trips, or harmonizing with her nieces at home. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Melissa played in both her high school band and jazz band, continuing her passion for music during her college years, which earned her a scholarship in the college band. Music was a source of connection, happiness, and self-expression for her, leaving lasting memories for all who shared those moments.
Above all, Melissa loved her family. She treasured every moment spent with her nieces and nephews - whether walking along the beach, watching their favorite shows, or simply laughing together. She created countless special memories with them, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and joy that will continue to live on in their hearts.
Melissa is survived by her loving husband, Johnnie Brent LaQuay; her devoted mother, Sue Vaughn Rieschick; her brother and sister-in-law, Jeremy and Giselle Rieschick; her cherished nieces, Sierra, Ansley, and Journey; and her nephews, Jacob R. and Jacob M. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Rieschick; her twin sister, Kristina Rieschick; her grandparents, Melvin and Mildred Rieschick and Red and Mabel Vaughn; and her uncle, Dennis Rieschick.
A memorial service to celebrate Melissa's life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson, Texas on August 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Her legacy of service, creativity, faith, and love will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, Melissa's light, laughter, and song will echo in the memories she leaves behind.
Memorial contributions can be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 86 Plantation Dr, Lake Jackson, TX 77566, or The Brazoria County Alliance for Children (BACODA), 2947 Broadway St, Ste 400, Pearland, TX 77581.

I'm sorry to hear about Melissa passing. It's been a long time since we saw each other, but I have a lot of great memories from when we were kids - especially around the holidays at our grandparents' place. She had such a big heart and was always so smart. Sending love and condolences to the whole family. You're in my thoughts.

There is never enough time with those we love, especially when we live so far apart. You are so loved and will be missed. I am so thankful you had a good amount of time with your nieces and nephews. I know you live them as I have always loved you even far away. I will love you always!
