Mary Claire Doggett Becker, age 93, passed away July 29th in Lake Jackson, Texas, with family nearby. Mary Claire, Milly to her family, was born in Sherman, Texas to Wheaton and Haskell Doggett. She was a true Texas girl living in multiple locations throughout Texas and pursuing her lifetime interest in all things Texas. Her early years were in Austin, Dalhart, Tyler, Sherman, and Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas before attending the University of Texas at Austin. She was active in student government and Alpha Delta Pi. Mary Claire met her husband John Greenleaf Becker, Jr. at The University of Texas and they were married in Dallas. She followed John to West Germany during the Korean War where their eldest child was born. They returned to the states, settling in Ft. Worth, to raise their family. Mary Claire earned her degree at TCU in 1970. She earned a Master's in Education from Sam Houston State University.
Mary Claire first taught at St. Christopher's Catholic School in Houston. Later, she continued her teaching career at Jackson Middle School, McCullough and Conroe High Schools, the Windham School District, and retired from Austin ISD as a counselor. In retirement, Mary Claire moved to Conroe, Brenham, Austin and Lake Jackson, TX. She was active in Master Gardeners, created and sewed many quilts, and a true lover of her pets. Mary Claire enjoyed traveling throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado with John. In later years, she enjoyed visiting France, Germany and Switzerland with family.

The family wants to thank the many workers and residence at Carriage Inn for their support and kindness. She was fortunate to go peacefully while in hospice through IPH with the loving care of Taylor Knox. The family is especially appreciative of the love shown by her caregiver Jana Neal and daughter Patti.
