Funeral services for Bobby Ray Philpot Sr., age 76, of Lake Jackson, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church Waskom with Brother Ivy Shelton officiating. Interment will be held at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Waskom at 10:00 a.m. on October 20, 2025.

Bobby Ray Philpot Sr. was born on December 19, 1948, to Bill and Mary Philpot, the sixth of eight children. He graduated from Waskom High School in 1967 and went on to earn his associate degree from Panola College in 1969. He then attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he completed a bachelor's degree in English and Special Education and a master's degree. In 1973, Bobby married Patricia Johnson after becoming a Christian in his 20s and attended church, even after his health declined.

Bobby began his teaching career at Lufkin State School while living in Nacogdoches. He later accepted a position at Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas, where he taught 40+ years until his retirement. Beyond the classroom, Bobby was heavily involved in the Freeport community - teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults at night and teaching at a local state prison.

Teaching was more than a profession for Bobby; it was his calling. He often said it never felt like work because he truly loved what he did. Over the years, he had the honor of teaching multiple generations of families - parents, their children, and even grandchildren - earning him deep respect and lasting connections throughout the community. He was a passionate educator, a steadfast encourager, and a loyal friend to many.

One of Bobby's favorite Bible verses was Matthew 19:26: ''With God, all things are possible.'' He was also fond of saying, ''If there is a Philpot, there is a way.''

Bobby is survived by his sons, BJ Philpot (Laura), Carlos Philpot (Angelica), Larry Morrow (Tammy), and Benjamin Morrow (Lisa). Survivor siblings include Tommy Philpot, Annie Britt, and Billie Philpot. Grandchildren include Huntly Philpot, Charlie Philpot, Carley Philpot, Jacob Philpot, Katie Philpot, Alondra, Big Boy, Avery Rush (Blake), Benjamin Morrow (Karoline), Hunter Morrow (Ellen Anne). Great Grandchildren include Ryleigh Blake, Phinley Blake, and George.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mary Philpot, paternal grandparents Ruben and Leona Philpot, maternal grandparents Allen and Ruth Hendricks, siblings Mertle Maxey, Andrew Philpot, John-Edward Philpot, and Nellie Summers.

Pallbearers will be Johnathon Britt, Carlos Philpot, Jerry Britt, Wayne Carter, Jeremy Adams, Jacob Lewis.

Mr. Phil made a huge difference in my life. He was always there when I was in high school and made sure I knew he was proud when I became a teacher and then a principal. Thank you Mr Phil for your love and inspiration.

I was privileged to work with Bobby several years. It was a joy to watch him teach and communicate with his students. He was fun
and clever with his quips of knowledge. He had a heart of
gold and it was an honor knowing him. May perpetual light shine on him.

Uncle Bobby was the most, amazingly funny, kind, sportive person I've every none. We all carry so many memories of ways he taught us life skills of how to act, achieve, respond to people, in kind ways. How to respect ourselves and others. He always told us to say hello to everyone we meet, because you never knew who might be having a bad day and need cheering up. He would help all in arbitration in stats. He always made life upbeat and exciting along the way. If he had an opinion he would shar it and encourage you to share user.he loved his family, especially his litter sister Annie Philpot Britt. They were.always too peas in a pod.
