Virginia Lee Johnston Bond, lifelong resident of the Lonestar state, passed away peacefully at her Texas home on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Virginia was born September 30, 1942, in Longview, Texas, to Edith ''Edie'' Hortense Henigan and Morris Reid Johnston.

Virginia, 83, was married to Victor Eugene Bond III, on June 28, 1960. They were married for almost 58 years on this earth, and are now happily reunited together, along with their sons Nathan and Ben.

Virginia and Victor were the proud parents to four children, Darryl Eugene, Samuel Nathan, David Benjamin and Carolyn Joy; ten fantastic grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two more on the way.

Virginia taught middle school Texas History for over 20 years and LOVED anything related to her beloved home state: chili cook-offs, bluebonnets, bluegrass, longhorns, etc.. Anytime a former student would see her in public, they would be excited to reunite with their beloved teacher.

Virginia was known for being an incredibly talented artist. Her art hangs not only in many homes, but also at the Surfside Historical Museum. Virginia's artwork has also been displayed at churches, Brazosport College, and multiple exhibitions. In the month just prior to her passing, Virginia was awarded the 2025 Anne Brightwell Artist Award for her murals at the Velasco memorial at Surfside. She had the artist's touch and knew how to make anything beautiful.

Virginia also knew how to make everything delicious. She was known for her shrimp stew, pecan pie bars, and her Thanksgiving dressing. She was also a canning and bottling powerhouse! If it could be preserved, Virginia did it: jams, jellies, salsa, vegetables, potatoes, fruits, meats, even chocolate!

Virginia and Victor were proud to have traveled to all 50 states, but were always excited to come home to Texas. Their world travels included trips to Belize, Spain, Panama, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. The crowning jewel of their time abroad was the mission they served for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vanuatu for 18 months. Virginia and Victor taught the gospel of Christ and were instrumental in bringing fresh drinking water to villages on multiple islands. Virginia perfected an eggless chocolate cake recipe and would send birthday cakes via commuter/mail planes to missionaries serving on isolated islands.

Virginia was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for over 60 years where she served in numerous callings and assignments. Her favorite calling of all was serving together with Victor in the Houston Temple.

Virginia is survived by her son Darryl, of Richwood, Texas; daughter Carolyn Swan (Ben) of Petersburg, New Jersey; grandchildren, Chelsea Bond, Logan Bond, Aaron Bond, Allison Bond, Chyna Bond, Kayce Bond, Nicole Bond, Natalie Bond, Noelle Bond, and James Swan; great granddaughter Carmen Esperanza; her sister Kelly Reilly; and honorary daughters Melodie Bond, Deborah Bond, and Kellene Nordstrom.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Orie Bruce Johnston, Morris Reid Johnston, and Patti Jo Reilly; Her beloved husband of 58 years, Victor Eugene Bond III, and cherished sons Samuel Nathan and David Benjamin.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for all the love and care that was shown to Virginia during the time of her illness and passing. Your names will be remembered in heaven.

A viewing and visitation will be held Saturday, October 25 at 9:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 502 Southern Oaks Drive, Lake Jackson. The funeral will be held at the same location, beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow immediately at Restwood Memorial Park in Clute.
