Joe lived a full and varied life. He served as an officer for the New Orleans PD and earned his millwright apprenticeship, but his greatest passion was always music. After moving to New Orleans, he picked up the bass guitar and became part of the vibrant funk and Motown scene. He had the joy of playing alongside The Meters, the Neville Brothers, and many other artists who helped define a generation of sound. He used his gifts for ministry too and served as a proud member of the praise band at Southview Baptist Church, even toward his final days.
A man of many interests, Joe was an avid biker, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, and a skilled marksman and weapons collector. He lived with a friendly, kind, and jovial spirit, always ready with a joke and carrying a positivity that lifted every room he entered.
To his daughter, he was a steady source of pride and affection. His constant reminder, ''I love you big, big,'' personified his deep love for her. He is survived by his wife, Aline; daughter, Victoria Kirk; and her husband, Aaron Kirk.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gideon International ministry of which he was a member for many years.
